I must say, as a fan of Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Army of Darkness) and Indiana Jones movies, I fully appreciated The Mummy. It was the best example of camp I have seen in quite some time. I am now certainly looking forward to The Mummy 2.

Any other campy horror fans enjoy this one?

<< Having deliberately artificial, vulgar, banal, or affectedly humorous qualities or style: played up the silliness of their roles for camp effect. >>

When I say a movie was campy, I mean that it was bad on purpose. The filmmakers purposefly crafted absurd scenes and stupid jokes. But everything is supposed to be unbelievable and silly. When you are expecting it, it is a fun time. But when you are led to expect something serious, a campy type of movie can be a bad experience. Look at ANY troma film, or Sam Raimi horror flick for good examples of camp. Xena and Hercules are examples of camp, as well.

Thanks. I might give that one a shot. I might also suggest Dead Alive for anyone who likes any movies I have previously mentioned.

Talk about a gore fest. It is the bloodiest movie I have ever seen, but you cannot help laughing.

<< Was that dude afraid of cats or what?? >>

Makes you wonder why they didn't just duct tape cats to their chests.

I guess it's just another of those suspension of rational thought things movies ask us to do. ;)

I just have to say that Brendon Frazier (SP?) cannot act if his life depended on it. (Please don't start a flame war :) )

i liked The Mummy but then again everyone says i have horrible taste in movies so i guess my opinion shouldn't really count. as far as Brendan Fraser is concerned... he doesn't need to know how to act, he's a hottie :)

The Mummy certainly wasn't what I expected, but it was ok. It was like Tarzan/Dudley Doo Right meets the Mummy, except it tended to tone done the humour.

As for Brendan Fraser, well, he'll never be a Bogart, Hanks, or Eastwood, but he is perfect for some of the roles he has played.

Fraser did a great job in School Ties (w/ Matt Damon), it's probably his best dramatic performance.

BTW, I loved The Mummy... sure it wasn't Raiders of the Lost Ark, but it still had it's appeal (Rachel Weisz, YOWZA!!!). ;)

The Mummy was just a new "old movie". I really enjoyed it and want to see the next one.
