I searched for a price for it and couldn't find anything. I assume a comparable PC notebook could be had for what, $2,000.00?

What is the most bang for the buck in a portable these days? One that could replace a desktop. I'm guessing a $1,500 Dell of some kind. 15" screen ain't too shabby!

Sounds like like you're in the market! But I thought you would be able to get a liitle more for that kind of money at this point in time. That means the G4 is going to be in the $3,000 range I bet!

When I can get a 15" display, CD and modem in a name brand unit for about $1,000, I'll be seriously in the market myself. A portable does seem like a smart way to go for that kind of money.

You can get a CDROM and a modem in a $500 laptop. It's everything else that kills the price.

Laptop HD's are much dinero, and laptop ram is about 50% higher per meg than standard desktop ram. The 32 megs of video ram in that laptop don't help either.

Screen sizes also really jack up the laptop prices as well.

Someone I know who saw it says the bottom was burning really hot. Can someone answer me this?

Why does Apple not provide Line In on their systems? And instead of giving us they fancy looking mice, why dont they just give us a two or three button mouse?

I would buy the PowerBook G4/400 Titanium from Outpost.com for $2,465.25 (after 5% eBates.com) with free overnight shipping ... However I found a major flaw. Since they had to make the damned notebook so fscking thin (1-inch) they did not use standard RAM which makes the price really high for additional RAM. Of course it already comes with 128MB and it has 3 RAM slots which can accomodate up to 1.5GB of RAM. Since I only surf the net and play a few games I would probably add another 256MB on top of the factory installed 128MB. Another bad thing is the current Mac OS 9.1 is no where as RAM efficient as Windows 2000 Pro is. Hopefully Mac OS X will live up to the hype. But you gotta admit all that power packed into a 5 pound, 1-inch, Titanium covered, 15.2" wide display is sooooooooooooooooooooo fscking sexy.

brb - gotta change my boxers ;)

there is no pc to compare to. That dell is ok, but its big and heavy(possibly ugly).. no comparison. I have a laptop that beats the apple in size, but i'm missing cd/dvd:( my case is metal, but not titanium. i wonder how much of a beating that titanium could take:) as for price, sony superslim pro's are more expensive:p

Jeff Goldblum: "You're so gonna want one."

Fsck you Jeff. For $2,599+ a pop it's no wonder two of the biggest Apple supporters at my job just bought Dell notebooks.

Apple put out this notebook because OS10 wasn't ready and they had to have something to present at CES. Only Steve Jobs could introduce a heavy laptop and get away with calling it ultralight. LOL

I just saw another Apple PowerBook G4 Titanium commercial, damned that laptop looks sweet. If only we could install Windows 2000 Pro or Mac OS X onto it.
