Just saw "Se7en" for the first time

It was an interesting movie through the first half but at the end the story got way too predictable. I saw the ending coming from a mile away, but everything else was done quite nicely: the acting, screenplay, even the LOTResque music was kinda cool.

I'd give it a B or B+.

Not really, before now I didn't even know what kind of movie Se7en was anyway.

*SPOILER ALERT*

But honestly now, why else would Mills' wife and baby have such importance in the movie? They can't just bring all that stuff up and then end it...plus, with Mills' building personality throughout the movie, he definitely had it coming for him - the whole "feed off his emotions" thing gave it away.

LOTR-esque music? This movie came out WAY before LOTR hit the theaters.

A+ movie all around. And it's only "predictable" because the movie has been talked about for 10 years.

its seeped into popular culture, you might have heard about it, or something referenced it. its how it is with good films, they influence/are copied enough that later on it might not appear as fresh if you didn't see it when it came out.

Actually I only said that because I noticed that the music was directed by Howard Shore. Of course this movie came out before LOTR, and I'm sure Howard used a lot of the styles for LOTR too.

As for the ending, I'm pretty sure I've seen scenes like it in a lot of other movies, maybe that's why I subconsciously knew what was going to happen.

You know I just got back from Zodiac, and aside from it being almost 3 hours long (maybe 2.5 after i take into account previews), I wasn't that enthralled with it. I mean, I don't think that it was bad, and I wasn't really expecting it to actually tie off the story, but ultimately there was nothin in there that I hadn't already seen in the numerous "Unsolved Mysteries" documentaries about it.

That, and Jake Gyllenhall looks like a 12 year old with a 5 o'clock shadow for most of the movie, and I was having trouble getting over that one.

I just think it ended too soon. We never find out what happened to the wife. We are left imagining that the killer left the wife in some horrible predicament, but David Mills opens the box, looks at the picture or whatever is inside, and just goes ballistic. He shoulda been thinking about the wife and rushed outta there. They never tied things up. Maybe they left it for a sequel? :confused:

It was the wife's head in the box. I'd say that tied things up pretty well.

I also thought it was a good movie up to the point that Spacey gave himself up. After that it was just so-so, but overall, worthwhile watching.
