it was a pretty awesome movie, excellent special effects, and it definitely makes me want to read the books. i cant wait for the next movie to come out!

As good as the movie seems, the books are better (as almost always the case). I urge you to read and enjoy them first, before going to see the Two Towers in November.

I disagree with that. I read the books at least every couple of years and I was a little disappointed with the first movie and I think my disappointment is only going to get worse in the next movie.Originally posted by: Pooteh

I love the books and the movie is great also but I think it would be better to read the books after the movie. The movie has to be enjoyed standing on its own, there's just too much in the books to bring to the big screen. I actually enjoyed the movie a lot more the second time I saw it; the first time I was too much trying to compare the movie to the book. The second time I just enjoyed the movie and forgot about the books and it was much better that way.

Agreed, but with a little twist. You might consider the Hobbit first since the events in it foreshadow LOTR.

ditto on all that.
i liked LOTR 10 times better the second time cause I already knew the changes (and I already liked it a whole hell of a lot the first time).
If I were you, I'd read the books after the movies...but that's just me.
