As good as the movie seems, the books are better (as almost always the case). I urge you to read and enjoy them first, before going to see the Two Towers in November.

Agreed, but with a little twist. You might consider the Hobbit first since the events in it foreshadow LOTR.

I disagree with that. I read the books at least every couple of years and I was a little disappointed with the first movie and I think my disappointment is only going to get worse in the next movie.

Depends on whether you presume the movie to be identical to the book, and whether you have a fixed picture of everything set in your head according to your imagination, or whether you allow some more freedom for the makers of the movie. I found it quite nice.

I love the books and the movie is great also but I think it would be better to read the books after the movie. The movie has to be enjoyed standing on its own, there's just too much in the books to bring to the big screen. I actually enjoyed the movie a lot more the second time I saw it; the first time I was too much trying to compare the movie to the book. The second time I just enjoyed the movie and forgot about the books and it was much better that way.

ditto on all that.

i liked LOTR 10 times better the second time cause I already knew the changes (and I already liked it a whole hell of a lot the first time).

If I were you, I'd read the books after the movies...but that's just me.

the hobbit appeared to be a bit immature to me. more kiddish than the rest. I am glad I read LOTR first and then the hobbit. had i read it the other way, i would probably have not read LOTR at all.

I've never seen Spiderman or Episode II, never read any of these LOTR books, hell I never saw ANY of the Star Wars movies until about 2-3 months ago when a coworker let me borrow them.

I do have LOTR on DVD though, it's pretty good. I won't read the books though.. little to no interest. I don't read too much.

I read the books after watching LOTR. And so far, the books have a lot more details (obviously). It would take at least 8 hours to do a decent copy of the book.

That was surprising to a lot of people cause I hate reading books.
