Yeah, I decided not to watch it

Instead, I'm creating my own movie in my head right now by reading the book

The movies inside my head were way better.

I enjoyed it thoroughly. Sure it wasn't the same as the book. But neither was the radio show. Nor the TV series. It's the same british humour of the books and I am pretty sure that Douglas Adams would approve of the job that was done with it.

I was disappointed, it was too silly and cartoonish, I really wanted it to be good but alas..

And you didn't find the book equally silly and cartoonish?

Hmm, I loved the books but didn't care for the movie. I like 99% of the movies out there but this one just didn't do it for me. They never even explained what the towel was for! Arthur was told it was the most important thing...and that's it. Everything in the first half of the movie went waaayyy too fast - his house, the pub, etc. The robot looked like a toy rather than a depressed robot, although the voice acting was good. It was a fun show but I was honestly disappointed. I think LOTR did a better job going from book to screen. I really liked the "factory floor" with the Earth 2 and all though.

I don't think that they really needed to explain the towel for the movie to work. It's just one of many gags, and they did a good job getting the spirit of the book (which was just silliness for silliness sake with just enough reality thrown in for us to identify with the hapless Arthur).

Sure, it's not a movie on the order of Patton or anything, but it was fun and I'll definitely be buying the DVD when it comes out. It made me smile and laugh and that was enough. :)

Glad to hear someone else who was a fan that liked it. Me and my friend that went to see it are both big fans, and found it enjoyable as well. My only major gripe is that the opening sequence with the dolphins could have been a couple minutes shorter, but it's better entertainment than some movies provide while they're just showing the opening credits.

Between this and your choice in cars, ZV = :)

And they did show the towel being used... perhaps if there's a second movie we'll see even more uses for the towel in action.

My girl loved it, so I'll probably end up buying it too  I think it will grow on me. I've read the books so many times I guess I've just had it played out in my mind and expected the movie to be like it. I liked Zaphod's character, cowboy president lol.
