It made me laugh, I'll give them that. Overall I feel slightly bad for MS with their Vista security features. They can't help it that the Windows platform is simply attacked more than Apple's, they implement a really good feature to protect the end-user (albeit annoying) and already Apple has a commercial out that tells you it's annoying and that you defeat its purpose when you turn it off. In other words they just told you there is no elegant solution for Microsoft and Windows security.

Haha oh well.

uh, its 100% accurate. Maybe the most accurate commercial Apple Inc. has put out.

Most advanced users just turn off UAC and thus disable one of the most important security features of Vista.

I never said it was incorrect.

I feel sorry for Microsoft. They have done something in good faith, but implemented poorly and as a result disabled by the general public. Its been available for a long time in Linux and implemented nicely in OSX. They are taking it hard out there and it was in good faith.

In other words, there is no elegant solution to the problem of user stupidity. ;)

I've actually had great luck with both my brother and my mother-in-law. They both used to get tons of spyware and whatnot. After repeatedly cleaning up their computers I finally set them up with limited user accounts and all is well. :) I gave them the administrator password so they can login and install whatever they want, but it prevents them from installing stuff accidentally.

That's the same feeling I have about Vista. I actually wish Microsoft copied OSx MORE. The sidebar and security controls in vista are implemented far less gracefully than dashboard and administrator controls in OSx.

I wish hp or dell would run a copy of apple's commercial where the fat guy says,
"What should I do with the $1000 I saved by buying a pc instead of a mac?"

I gotta say though, I was involved in the beta test for Vista and I hated that thing. Took me nearly 30 minutes to finally shut all that crap off.

I'm sure that for the unexperienced, and even some experienced, it is very handy, but it was so incredibly annoying to me.

At this point, as a career Net Admin that runs a Novell Network, I have no plans for Vista. Its XP untill I can't anymore, then we evaluate Vista or Linux/OO for our standard platform.
