Saw it at Norman Frede Chevrolet in Houston while I was picking up the tags for my new 09 Malibu LTZ.

They said it was the only one in Houston. It was only $180,000.

I wonder if my wife would mind me spending our Hurricane Ike insurance money on it.........
:p

They really are pushing the price boundary. But it's a pretty rare car right now

Haven't seen any GT-Rs in SE Houston.

Have seen a Lotus Elise & Viper at work however.

Prices on ZR1 is falling faster than the economy. It took over 2 years for the Z06 to sell at or under MSRP at most dealerships. That's even with over 7k unit production a year. It will likely only be months before ZR1 reaches MSRP. Few have gotten it at MSRP but the market currently is around 10k-20k over. It's falling fast but GM production cuts have temporarily slowed the price drop. GM is only going to make 1k+ units instead of the 2k+ units they were scheduled to make this year because of the plant downtime. If not for the production delay, ZR1 would've likely hit MSRP before end of this year. While it still might, the more likely scenario is next year. There are dealerships taking deposits for 2010 model at MSRP but I doubt you'll have a problem finding one next year at MSRP or under unless GM goes under. I would be more worried about the dealerships going bankrupt and taking your deposit with it than finding one at MSRP next year.

They said it was the only one in Houston. It was only $180,000.

They were lying. Not about the price, but about having the only one in Houston. There are 2 at the local Chevy dealer near me and I live in a small town outside of Raleigh, NC. There is no way there is only one in Houston unless he meant only one not already claimed, which at a price of $180,000, I'm not surprised no one wants it. With 1000-2000 produced a year, they aren't going to be that rare.

They had a black one at the Nissan dealership on 45 and Almeda. Markup was at least 20K.

Lying! at a car dealer!. Say it ain't so.

However just because there is a few in your area doesn't mean there are more here. It's possible they got the first one in the area. I think you are probably right however that if there aren't more here now there soon will be.

A simple check on Chevrolet website's vehicle locator turns up multiple ZR1's that have at the very least been allocated to dealers in the Houston area, including this one which you saw.

Well they sold it. I was over there for an oil change with our other vehicle and it was gone. The manager said they had an offer for $130,000 which they sat on for a week to see if anything other offers came in, which none did.
