Just saw "A Mighty Wind"

This is an amazing movie, assuming you don't need to be overtly entertained. 🙂 I found it interesting that "The Folksmen" Is the exact same band members as "This is Spinal Tap". I also found it amazing how musically talented Eugene Levy, and the rest of the cast is.

I'm going to watch it tomorrow.

If you haven't seen them, you'd probably like Waiting for Guffman and Best in Show.

i'd say it's the weakest of guest's "modern" movies, but it's still pretty good. waiting for guffman and best in show were simply brilliant. 🙂

The only other guest "mockumentry" that i've seen is "This is Spinal Tap" a few years ago, and that was great. Though since Meathead directed it, I guess it wasn't really Guest's movie.

Then you need to go out and rent Waiting for Guffman and Best in Show as soon as possible. If you like any one of them you'll like all of them. The subject matter changes, but they all have the same style, the same sly wit and the same brilliant underplayed performances. Best in Show might have been half a notch below the others for most of the film, but Fred Willard rescues things at the end. He absolutely steals the movie as the dog show commentator.

I remember seeing "The Folksmen" in concert on maybe SNL or MAD or one of those TV shows... That's actually why I picked up the DVD. I watched the whole movie thinking that those guys were a real band, but the other two groups were just made up for the show... I didn't put two and two together for some reason. 🙂 It actually made the movie better for myself.

On another note, the song by "Mitch and Mickey" called "Next to Me" Is an amazing song!

Christopher Guest is one of the brightest writers and directors in Hollywood today. Between him and Eugene Levy, they have the ability to write and direct a better movie than the rest of Hollywood combined. While I'd rate Mighty Wind behind their other movies as far as "laugh out loud" gags go, it's hilarious in it's subtlety.

Spinal Tap will always be a classic. Best In Show and Waiting For Guffman are a couple of the best movies of all time. I worship at the Altar of Guest.

Mighty Wind did a good job of portraying the folk scene, but I was disappointed overall. I wanted another Guffman (one of my all time fav's).

Definitely watch "Waiting for Guffman" and "Best in Show"! You'll love em.

Also, rent the "Spinal Tap" DVD and listen to the commentary. It's hilarious.
