Just RMA'd my Maxtor HD. But what if it works?

Okay I just did an Advanced RMA at Maxtor's site (they get my CC number and send out the drive right away. I have 30 days to send them mines. if not they charge me) The thing is, I'm afraid that when the drive comes to them, and they test it, it'll work.

The situation is kinda complex but here it goes: My 2nd hd has been dying and coming back to life for the past couple months at random periods. Just recently the drive completley crapped out on me, and when I have it hooked up, my computer would reboot after IDE detection every time. But when I tried it on my sister's comp, the drive works, and loads fine. But the data is gone (windows states that it is not formatted) Since maxtor already sent out the drive, what would happen if i sent in my broken one and it works with their systems?

Don't sweat it, did they have you do any tests before RMA'ing it? If not, then you're in the clear, basically, don't lose any sleep just send in the bad drive.

The RMA procedure was very quick and painless. I just entered in some info and selected the best reason for returning the drive. Which was "Drive not detected at startup" I'm just worried that they'll see that the drive works (for them) and charge my CC for the replacement, as well as sending back my retarded drive.

They only get your CC info in case they send out the new drive and you don't send back the old. There's nothing to worry about as long as you send them back the old drive, working or not.

I think my next drive will have to be Maxtor. I sent my drive back to IBM nearly 5 weeks ago and still no sign of a replacement 🙁

Maxtor seem to care about customer support, something I wish IBM would do - why can't one of the biggest technology companies in the world replace a faulty drive in reasonable time too?

Back to your question, dont worry, they only take your credit card number in case you recieve the new drive and run - as long as you send a drive back you'll be fine.
