Just ripped a contact lens

Anyone who's got em knows what that's like.

For those who don't, imagine someone stabbing you in the eye with a pen and then pouring tabasco in it.

And the best part is, it's only 9:30. F@ck.

When I went on vacation a few weeks ago I tore one of my contacts. I tried to put it in to see how bad it was. I got it in but when I blinked it split all the way in half. The bad thing is that one half went all the way up on my eye to where I couldn't even see it. Then, when I found it, I had to drag it all the way down and across to even get it out.

never put a ripped contact in, ever. It is very painful. Time to get a new one.

This one ripped while in my eye.

See previous comment regarding stab + tabasco. Thankfully it all came out together, so I don't need to go fishing for lens bits in my eye.

Time to exploit the free trials of the daily lenses whilst I wait for my new pair.

*goes to first optometrists'* Hi, I'd like a trial supply of contact lenses. Thanks
*continues down the road* Hi, I'd like ... :D

Not a bad idea.

I had to get some more because the one I ripped was part of my last pair. I'm still wearing the clear ones that they give you to wear until your contacts come in. :)

You should be thankful yours are so easily replaceable.

My lenses are RGP's, special ordered for me. I have one of each, no spares.

I broke one last week while cleaning it, went to rinse it & suddenly I had two pieces.

I was blind for two days because of that.

:(

Worst part is they're $400 a pair, so that lens was $200.

I went to rub something out of the corner of my eye, and *rip*.

ohtwell - do you have the monthly lenses though, or the long-term ones? These were the same pair I'd had for 4 years ... I guess it was due time one of em gave out. But now I'm all paranoid about the other one ripping today. I'm already half-blind. :p

Edit - the hell's an RGP?

I've been wondering about laser surgery myself. How bad were your eyes before the surgery, MrsSkoorb? Supposedly it can't correct really bad vision (like mine) but I've heard varying opinions.

Might be time to raise some money for that. :p

I think the stabbing is fairly accurate description actually. I ripped one on a Friday morning at work... I didnt have much sleep so my eyes were already dry, and I had to keep the torn contact in my eyes for 6 hour to finish my data entry.

My eye hurt so bad I didn't wear contacts for 4 days after that. :(:Q

I was completely nearsighted with no astigmatism whatsoever and I was -7.0 in both eyes. I had PRK done and not lasix because that was the best for MY eyes. The doctors all agreed that I was a perfect candidate for the procedure....over one year later and my only regret is that I had done it sooner! :)

Holy $hit. -7.0? Crap, I thought I was bad.

I'm -4.75/-5.0 - doctors used to think I had astigmatism but it's just because my eyes were changing so rapidly. Good to hear that it can help though ... time to ring the optometrists!

My cousin had it done years ago...she was -12.0 and -14.0. You can never EVER be too bad to have it done...If a doctor every tells you that, don't let him to the surgery! :p

I occasionally have them tear in my eye but i can still wear them for a little while if i don't blink so much. Sometimes that is the only time i feel it. Actually i had that happpen a couple days ago. If it's a big rip though, those damn things sting like a mofo. I'm -6 and -6.25 btw.

I wore torn contacts for several months when I was in 8th grade, because I was too scared to tell my dad that I ripped one of them. Id put the ripped contact in (the rip was about a 1/3 of the diameter), then it would be normal for a while, until the torn part of the contact hit certain spots on my eye, the pain would be unbearable. Everytime the torn part started to hurt my eye, Id put my finger on the contact and rotate it around my eye until it was more comfortable.

My eyes are both -8.50

thats REALLY bad for your eyes...you can get an eye infection pretty easily when you do that. Most optometrists recommend people to get the kind you replace every 2 weeks.

I don't get eye infections though. I keep them clean and I wash my hands when I take them out and put them in. My optometrist said that it wasn't a bad idea. Maybe different people's eyes react differently.

I've only ripped one in the past 14 years. I accidentally pinched it in that damn basket thing you were supposed to put them in for disinfecting/cleaning.
