God I wish I was around when it opened in 1981! That film and many others in the 1980s were pure cinema magic. I was told a lot of people were surprised how good the film was when it first opened in theaters and no one expected it. Sorta reminds me of Batman Begins.

Batman Begins is not even in the same league as Raiders.

Man I was excited to hear about the new Indy movie, then the more I thought about it the more I hated the idea. Now after reading reviews etc it sounds like I was right, what a travesty!

I totally agree I just said it reminded me of it because no one expected Batman Begins to be as good as it was. Did you ?

Do you remember when Raiders for came out ? Did you see it at the theater?

I wasn't all that enamored with BB. Katie Holmes couldn't act her way out of a paper bag and I thought the movie dragged at the beginning.

Best experience I ever had at the movies. I was either 7 or 8 when Raiders hit the screen - I still remember my Dad telling me we were going to see a movie with "Han Solo" (I was, not surprisingly, a huge Star Wars fan). The instant that giant boulder came rolling down at Indy I was absolutely hooked. Looking back, it was a fairly violent movie, but you used the right word - it was just magic. I probably saw it another 4 or 5 times that summer - someone's parents would take a bunch of us to see it as a weekend matinee. I asked my Dad later if he knew how good it was going to be - he said all he knew about it was that someone at work told him it was good & that it had than Han Solo guy from Star Wars.

Little did I know that a year later I'd get the chance to see E.T. months before it came out w/ Spielberg in the theater, but that's another story.

I don't think so but to each their own. Liked that it actually had a story and character development. Do you plan on seeing Dark Knight? Think you will like it better?

I didn't really like the old batman movies much. The new Batman I don't know it just seems so much better and I think it is.

Though no one can beat Raiders of the Lost Ark with Indiana Jones.

I will probably pick it up Blu-ray. I have BB on DVD.

My bias against BB is pretty apparent when you consider that the 1989 Batman is my FAVORITE MOVIE EVER -- and I'm DEAD serious. I saw it as a boy with my dad in the theaters when I was 9 years old.

I just love the film to death and watch at least a couple of times a year. Jack Nicholson's performance as The Joker was better than any two combined roles in BB.

I can't remember if I saw the 1989 Batman or not. I think I did but it has been a while. May have to watch it again to see. Never really got into the old batman much.

Batman Begins was good, but I agree completely. Raiders of the Lost Ark is the movie I can watch again and again and again. I can't say that about all these CGI filled movies they release these days. Transformers, The Matrix, the new Star Wars.

This and Star Wars The Empire Strikes back and Return of the Jedi, were some of the best movies I watched as a kid in the theatres. My most memorable though had to be Poltergeist. To this day I do not know why my Dad brought to watch that movie. I was scarred for life by that stupid tree.

What a lot of people dont know is that they cut out Indy swearing just before he shot the swordsman. I remember seeing that in the theater & it was hilarious.

That sucks. Made the scene even more perfect if they would of kept it in.
