Man, what a great weekend. We left Friday morning for my Father-In-Law's house in Rancho Mirage, just me, my wife, and our 4 year old son for a 3 day weekend in a 3 bedroom house all to ourselves. We have been going out there for Memorial Day weekend for the past few years but this one was memorable and I feel very relaxed...might have had something to do with the 1 hour massage I had on Saturday though. :D

The weather was beautiful, it was in the mid 90s on Friday when we drove in but it was only in the high 80s at the hottest hours of the day on Saturday and Sunday. I don't even think I broke a sweat the entire weekend.

The house is located on the Rancho Mirage Country Club golf course and has its own pool and jacuzzi along with a built in BBQ. The house is about 2500sq ft, fully stocked and furnished. No hotel in the area could compare quite honestly.

My son had a great time in the pool. We are trying to get him more comfortable with the water but he's still a little apprehensive. I bought a few floaty devices to get him interested and by Sunday afternoon we had him swimming around on one of them without my wife or I helping him. We kept ourselves covered in spf 45 everytime we went out in the sun so no burns.

I watched the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday and the end of the Indy 500. Great races, I hoped Kimi would win and I was kind of pulling for Marco Andretti too. Oh well, at least Schumacher didn't win. :p

We took the Lexus we bought a few weeks ago and even though it's a tad small it is far more comfortable than the Maxima on long drives. The Maxima suffers from excessive wind noise. The faster you go the louder it is and if you slide back the cover for the moonroof it's even worse. In the Lexus you hear almost no wind noise but there is some tire noise on grooved concrete pavement and those expansion joints are also very noticeable. On blacktop tire noise is minimal.

The climate control in the Lexus is very nice too. None of that put it on cool and keep adjusting the fan until you are too cold and then adjusting it again until you are uncomfortably warm for the entire trip. Just set it at the temp you want and that's it. I think I may have moved it up or down 1 degree but that's about it.

The trip computer is a nice feature too. I kept checking to see what we were doing in fuel economy, outside temp and various other settings you can monitor. We averaged 27mpg the entire trip and that included a lot of driving around in Palm Springs itself. This car gets very good mileage and it is very sporty and fun to drive. I'd say the chassis, handling and braking is much better than the Maxima but that 3.5l engine is definitely stronger. The Lexus IS350 would absolutely kill the Maxima though.

On to the massage. On Saturday I scheduled a full body one hour massage for my wife and I at The Lodge (no happy endings you pervs...it's not that kind of place). The Lodge used to be the Ritz Carlton, and from what I heard talking with the staff, the Ritz recently repurchased this facility so it will be renovated sometime in the next 6 months. Whatever they call it, it is a very nice facility.

My wife heard that some dumbass died in the pool on Friday night (drug/alcohol related) and so they had drained half of it and had it all roped off when we were there. On second thought, I should have gotten a happy ending because of that alone!!! :|;)

My wife and I each had a 1 hour massage and it was very relaxing. We had a sport massage so they focus on areas you feel that need attention. I chose my shoulders, legs and feet since I've been cycling quite a bit recently and wanted to focus on those areas. I had a very cute young blond woman give me my massage. Yes, I was naked but they use blankets to keep certain areas covered. She also did my wife...man, I wish...no wait, I'm not going to go there. ;)

It's going to suck going to work tomorrow...I need a drink. ;)

Cliffs:

-Went to Palm Springs
-Had a good time
-Got a massage (no happy ending you pervs)
-Enjoyed driving the Lexus IS
-Feel very relaxed

Don't think so. Didn't know there was one.

Practically every other street is named after a celebrity though. We were off Bob Hope Drive just south of Frank Sinatra Drive.

The Sonny Bono Memorial Highway is what I-10 heading towards LA is called.
I only drove through there once, but got a kick out of it.
I SO wanted to stop and take a picture of the signs that said "Banning next exit" to use here on spammers :D but alas, I was trying to get from Lordsburg,NM to Sacramento in one day and had no time.

:laugh:MAO!!! I think I remember seeing that or certainly a sign for Banning today on my way home. Next time I'm out there I'll take pic of it for sure.

I come up from San Diego so I don't hit the 10 until just before Cabazon. Since the 10 runs all the way from Los Angeles to at least Phoenix I doubt it carries that name for the entire way.

Edit-It's really nice being 1.5 hours from there. Makes it a great weekend get away place.
