Government efficiency ftw.

Remember, the computer age will make all transactions nearly instantaneous.

I thought that you could pay a bit more, and have the processing expedited?

i filled out the paperwork online...took it to my local po...had them take the pic....payed them my $$$ and went on my way...took about 10 minutes total
This was 2 weeks ago around lunchtime
Now there did form a line behind me about 10 people deep in those 10 minutes so I'm sure someone had an hour wait at least

not right now given the amount of passports being filed plus they are now looking at the data alot more closely

no typically its only a hour at the most but with the new law all US and CDN's must have a passport to cross the border, including children

Yeah, I'd guess this is more of a PITA these days with absolutely everyone required to have a passport now if you're going to cross any border. I just renew at the US Consulate here and it takes all of 10 minutes including filling out the paperwork. All told, it does take a little more time than that as I have to get photos too, but still, it's never any waiting in line anywhere.

You can go through a service agency. I just had to have mine done for a trip to the UK. I did a hand-to-hand (paid for by my company) and had my passport in 2 days. It cost $149 for the service and then $30 for the Goverment Fees.

This is the service I used.

When I got mine like 6 years ago it took about 2 hours at the regional post office...about two years before the post office down the street got the capability. My dad got mine in like two days by going directly to the Passport Office in DC and paying the expedite fee (work payed for it)

thats all true but now you cant cross the borders with just a drivers license and birth certificate...thats why everyone is getting these plus children require passports to
