Just got a phone call from Social Security Administration. They offered me an interview for a Co-Op position. I wasn't thinking at the time and told them i already have an internship.:| :|

Now that i think about it, i should of took the interview just for the experience! I have an internship now and love my job, but i guess it wouldn't hurt to check it out.. dammit stupid me!!!!!

I tried to call the number that is on my call ID, but thats the general number for the SSA.

i am so angry right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

let me hear some SSA bashing to make me feel better, anyone work there?

to rub it in: dude SSA is the government! imagine the benefits and the holidays that you get!

😀😀

dohhhhhh, i work for a Dod contractor now.. isn't that similar 🙁 🙁

working for the govt don't get you anymore benefits or holidays, in fact, you get less, you can kiss stuff like profit sharing, options good bye.

If you already have something you love, why worry about turning down something that you didn't want anyway? You will get more experience at what you are doing than interviewing for something you dont want.

🙂

Yeah i paused on the phone for 20sec when they asked me. I realized i wouldn't want to jump ship. So i said no. Its just that NONE of my friends get ANY interview opportunities that makes me feel guilty and makes me feel obligated to go.

It does sound cool to say..

Where do you work?
ME: I am with the SSA.

my bf was interviewed by them his junior year of college and they were ready to hire him on the spot, mostly because he was bilingual and they really needed people who can speak good korean to the little old korean ladies who need information on their benefits.

he still wants a gov't job though. set hours, many holidays, set pay raises, etc. and nearly impossible to be fired to boot.

i THINK they were willing to make an exception on him not being a citizen yet (he's a perm resident) since SSA isn't "vital" to national security.

nooooo thats not what i want to hear!

edit = Why didn't he take the job?

Ya, no sweat. the Job paid less than you were getting anyways. Plus if they want you they'll be back......

Don't worry. The SSA will eventually go bankrupt and you would have been out of a job anyway 😉

that would suck even worse cause then i will be old, jobless, and have no money for retirement!

he still had one more year of school and then during his senior year he decided he was going to law school.

he wants to wait until he becomes a citizen before applying for any more gov't jobs though to try to reduce the hassle.

That would be ironic to pay them a percentage of your money just to have them fire you and lose your retirement benefits.

Sounds like Enron.

Well, fortunately there's one less person with poor grammar skills working for the SSA.
"I should of took" makes you sound like an idiot, regardless of how "speech on the internet is so much more informal. " 😛 🙂

edit: I just didn't have the heart to bash those hard working SSA people 😛

I love my Government Job....
I work for a city in michigan as an iformation systems specialist... The title sounds more fancy than it really is... The pay is good, the bennefits are great and the amount of paid time off just rocks....

leave me and chinklish alone:beer:

Well i can still contact my school and get the number for them and see if i can work something out, hopefully they can help me 🙁

hahahahahaha... whatever you say

There is an SSA office in Woodlawn, Maryland near where I used to live. They don't do any work there. The managers just read the paper and people get promoted just to get rid of them.
