Alright, you guys can see my sig below, that's my current rig, I still haven't built up my new one. I've had the chance to get a temporary Core 2 and some DDR2 Memory to test out my new X38-DQ6, before I myself buy the "real" parts I want just next year in either January or February. By looking at my rig you see that I'm going to see quite a change in performance but also technology. Going from an nForce4 Mobo to an X38 one, there got to be something I need to be aware of first. And also going from AMD X2 S939 to Core 2 Duo S775 (right ?). And from DDR1 to DDR2.

I'm just wondering if my PSU will provide enough juice, but I think it should ? After all that's new technology, it SHOULD drink less juice to perform and radiate less heat at that too. So Is there anything I *have to* download like a very specific BIOS version ? Or a specific Microsoft hot fix like the X2 Dual Core hot fix a year or so ago ? Just ... you know, anything I need to be aware of ?

Thanks !

ummm... why did you buy this board then if you are building the computer in January or February when teh X48 chipsets will be available with official 1600 FSB support? Just wondering...

I am sort of in the situation you are in. I am ready to upgrade my HTPC, but I find it hard to justify getting a P35 board in the price range I was looking to spend when I know for a fact it won't support chips that come out 6 weeks from now. As a result I had been looking at the X38's, but none of them are under $200, and so I find myself in the position of having to order a high end board, so if that is the case, I can't justify buying a high end board that is obsolete next month with the new FSB. Yeah, they claim it will support the new CPU's, but Gigabyte claimed the GA-N680SLI-DQ6 was 1333 FSB AND Quad Core capable, which we all know it is NOT now that the 1333 Quads are available... I am seriously thinking of returning the board, and asking for a refund based on false product advertising, but I am sure their lawyers will find a way to keep that from happening....

What do you mean by "official" 1600FSB support ? The X38-DQ6 supports it un-officially or what ?

But anyways, I bought it for two reasons: 1) As I mentioned above but avoided the details, a friend is allowing me to use his un-used "old" PC parts (just the ones I needed), namely a Core 2 Duo E6600 and some Corsair DDR2 Memory, and since I got the new Mobo, and already have the rest (GPU, APU, PSU, HDD's, Monitor and peripherals) I decided to accept his suggestion and go buy my DQ6 so I could have a temporarily *better* PC until I buy my own CPU and Memory ... and ... 2) Because I had a 10% rebate for it (the result of accumulated purchases at my store, and their policy of "buy a lot and eventually get credits for a product of your choice" is quite satisfying).

if u're building in jan, you shoulda waited. prices are GOING to go down when the x48s come out. and ur mobo might be DOA right now but you wont find out until you get all ur pieces and no chance of refund.

Are you guys even reading my first post ?

I WILL build my new system, the temporary one like tomorrow. I WILL know if my Mobo is "DOA" tomorrow. And I ALREADY had a 10% price reduction from the start.

hey i have 965 ds3, its a board taht supports 775 core2 duos with 965 & ich8 or 7 cant remember from intel. Its a great board, and the bios overclocks well. having a gigabyte board has pleased me in terms of speed and stablilty with c2d overclocking. (1.8ghz to 3.2ghz on stock hsf) i have to tell you i bought the mobo open box from mwave. I cannot for the life of me have my computer recognize 2 of my older wifi cards, and 1 ieee1394 firewire card. ( i get error code 10: this device cannot start in windows task manager) i believe this is due to my gigabyte motherboard/bios. thats all i have to say in relation to gigabyte mobos. You have the x38 chipset in your setup, you should be even better off: enjoy the healthy speed increase over that old Amd setup :)

I'm just saying take the word of Gigabyte with a grain of salt. My case and point was the GA-N680SLI-DQ6 board which Gigabyte touted as "Supports 1333 FSB. Supports Quad Core.", but not BOTH at the same time....
