i probably would have kept it if it werent for the money that they stiffed me and the fact that a green line started appearing less than an hour into it. at least dell is paying for the shipping on the way back. i am getting a viewsonic 17.

Why not go for Dell 1704FPV if you are going to downsize?

Anyone have experience with that monitor? How is it for gaming? What panel is in there?

you get what you pay for

so glad I got that 2001FP back in the day instead of the silly pair of 19" I almost bought

now I have a pair of 2005FPWs and I'm in heaven, it pays to save for the next step up

It make NO SENSE to settle for something less on the part of the PC setup you CANNOT live without

Maybe I'll luck out and get a Samsung screen. One other thing that bugs me is that I'm unable to change the contrast, this otion is greyed out. When I try to adjust the brightness, nothing happens either.

Oh well, we'll see what the new one looks like.

LOL - do you even *read* the posts in the thread?

Ghosting on the Samsung panel IS NO BETTER IN ANY WAY!

Also - you using the DVI port? Then you can't adjust contrast or color options. That's the whole point of DVI - the monitor doesn't control that, the video card/OS does.

a green vertical aline also started to appear down the center of the screen.... ok.... last time i am dealing with dell, ever again. i had the AUO panel by the way. i think it's safe to say now: I FVCKING hate dell

Same thing happens with the Samsung panel - has to do with sync problems to your video card over the DVI connection. Just power the monitor down and back up again, and it's gone. It's very rare.

I set it to 1280x1024@60 and in 2D it looks very nice, but when I launch HL2 I can't play it for more then 3 minutes. Anandtech review claimed that this monitor uses Samsung panels. Apparently, it's no longer the case. I did some research and found thread at Hardforums that tells you how to check whether you have a Samsung or AUO panel. I did the test, and sure enough, it wasn't Samsung :(

I guess it's going back to Dell which is too bad considering the deal I got on it.

4/29 Update: I called Dell today and requested an RMA. I was told no problem, they will issue it to me, all I have to do is take it to a nearest UPS store and they will take care of it, no charge for me. Awsome. Then the lady asked if there was anything wrong with it. I told her what I said here, nothing wrong with the monitor, but it's ghosting and it hurts my eyes. She said "please hold I need to check on something". She comes back in a minute and says: 'Sir, would you be interested in a replacement?" Me: "how does it work?" She: "We will send you a replacement montior, it will be shipped to you at no extra charge. When you receive it, there will be a pre-paid waybill. Once you sure the new monitor is OK, please re-package the old monitor and call DHL to schedule a pick-up. There is no charge to you for return shipping either". Needless to say I said "sure, let's do it".

:thumbsup::beer: for Dell's customer support!

So you're getting it replaced...with another 1905FP? How exactly does that help the ghosting problem?

And the contrast being grayed out...that depends on whether you hook it up via DVI or not. In which case you can control all the image settings via your video card's control panel.

Actually most LCDs let you adjust color even when using DVI. Just because it's digital doesn't mean the screen has no control.

I can't say enough good things about this LCD. I had it, and only got rid of it when I got my 2001FP (also love).

The S74 was GREAT for games. And the build quality on it was imho much better than my 2001FP. The metal case/frame and base just felt much more solid. And Sony's idea of cable management just blows away the 2001FP. The cables all are hidden by a slide up panel, then route down through the "post" and out the back of the base.

Awesome LCD, just too small for me :)

It's more $$ than some comparable LCD's, but I think the materials used in it, the fit and finish, and it's performance are worth the little extra.
