Anything short of that is just pure jackassed ignornace, similar to what lottery winners do.

I'm kind of stuck on the whole idea of a $10mil company owner/builder asking how to begin to manage that type of money. Is this thread a flashback to the dotcom frenzy?

I'm not exactly sure how someone builds a company to be worth $10mil on the open market but does not have the knowledge of what to do with the money AND posts about it on ATOT.

I mean really, comon.

I am hoping the 297 in his handle isn't February 1997 as a birthdate.

pay off college, bills, parents house, buy yourself a new car, electronics, travel, whatever you've been wishing for...then save the rest in retirement, 401k, roth, invest in stocks...thats what i would do.

I don't know why everyone is calling shens...

He obviously has to spend the whole $10 mil in the next 30 days, without having a penny left in assets so that he can then get the true payment of $300 mil. He can't tell anyone about where the money came from, or he won't get the big payout!

Duh

Edit:

this also explains why he would post on ATOT, considering we could probably come up with some great ways to piss away a stack of cash like that (seen a few already).

to the OP:

my advice is to consider running for political office... Oh, and don't trust your interior decorator!

Yeah and this Arab Shiek gave me his Boeing 747 flying palace because he upgraded to an Airbus A380 flying palace. Apparently the swimming pool in his 747 palace wasn't big enough.

Yes this post is going to sound like bragging and yes I am a little bit. Deal with it.

After a hectic year I sold my company for just over $10 million after taxes friday. (no I haven't ever mentioned my personal company on ATOT, just my dad's which are completely unrelated. No I won't tell you what it was, especially not until things are finalized.) and I am honestly at a loss of what to do... All these new possibilities open up at once and I am kind of lost. I am only 18 and I am a freshman in college.

I am considering just throwing the whole thing into like a 5 or 6% interest account and only buying stuff off the interest.

The other side of me wants to do the obvious... Bugatti Veyron and a nice house.

I am still in shock and kind of looking for guidance. No one I know has ever even come close to this sum of money.

So guys, I am open to suggestions, have at it. What would you do?

(btw I have a thing for the Aston Martin DBS :p)

Seriously, do that, or something similar. Do you know anybody that is good with stocks, bonds, options, etc? I don't mean someone that made fifty bucks on a guess, I mean someone that has been at this for several years and knows what they're doing. Of course there's no guarantees, but if they've made an average 0f 10% every year for the past five or ten years, I'd jump in on it.

What is stunning is that at a good 40-50% believe him and are wasting their time with honest replies.

OP, if you're serious, then why not look at the stickied Child's Play Children's Hospitals thread and consider matching what's donated? It'd encourage more people to be charitable to children in need during this holiday season.

I like this idea the best.

seriously, the only thing he can possibly do to prove that his claim has any merit

It's definitely worth a nomination, and will leave every other nominee in the dust if the OP actually posts some proof and owns all the naysayers.

OP, how about when things are finalized, then come in here and brag about it WITH solid evidences. Until then, I say shens.

He doesn't have the money yet, give him a break. He is still waiting for the Nigerian to send him the final version of the product so he can resell and collect. Thankfully for him he already locked down the deal by sending his college fund via western union, now he just has to wait a bit longer to profit. I for one am insanely jealous....

I would probably spend a few million on a nice house and property. House doesn't have to be huge but would like property thats prime.. on a major body of water or great mountain view.. whatever you're into. Then spend some extra on furnishings and a couple vehicles.
The rest I would invest and live off the interest.

*waves by the the rest of the money in taxes*

That would be a horrible decision, except for investing.

who has the smarts to build up a company worth 10million by that age, yet needs to come to AT to ask how to spend it? haha

Good for you if its true, hire a financial consultant and invest conservatively. no need to go aggressive since you have enough to live well off of for the rest of your life.

If you would've read everything you would've seen that he's selling an unreleased product/idea...
Ok I read the entire thread. You were right I should have read all 200+ posts first, because then I would have realized the full awesomeness of this thread.

Now I'm sure there is the possibility this situation could be true, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's a very slim chance.

I haven't done any past posting search on the OP and I won't bother. So far this thread has yielded the fact that the OP is 18 and fresh into college, bought a Z06 on entry level job pay, has generated enough funding to purchase a company that already owned patents to multi-million dollar ideas, currently has enough time to deal with this company, college, work and 3-4 days of partying. Much of this development was done while in high school, working entry level jobs to pay for a car that most with real jobs can't afford.

Now the mention of his father's companies is what's going to bring this all together.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say junior here has a reasonably wealthy family. Wealthy enough to finance junior's Z06 "dream", higher education and this claimed business opportunity. I'll go even further out to say that his family is most likely responsible for everything.

A few things come to mind, one is the question of why would the OP come here and ask for 'advice' when his father is a successful businessman? Would anyone with half the amount of brain needed to envision such a business prospect come on this forum and ask for advice (aka. thinly veiled bragging)? Seriously even talking about this type of deal with anyone but the legally interested parties is typically unethical/illegal, but I'm sure his lawyers knew that already. Then there is the whole fact that in the history of the internet there have been countless amounts of these stereotypical posts/sites etc., how many are even close to realistic?

Now I know that there is a lot of money out there and much of it is not flaunted. Wealth is very common in this country and generally not overly difficult to come by. So I'm sure the OP could be entirely truthful. Though I'm going to have to say that I've seen so many types of these communiques on the internet that most of them just fall under the general heading of 'bullshit'. There is common sense and then there is what an 18yo college kid says on an internet forum. Take your pick.

I wish the OP and his family all the success in building that portfolio so the inheritance is very generous.

You're too generous with your good will. I hope this lazy bastard is forced to work for his money.

This youth coddling does not benefit any of us-it weakens the empirical fiber of this country.

Whatever you do don't let it sit in the bank in the form of the American dollar.
If you are not sure where to put it until you invest make sure it's in an international bank with a hard currency. In an American bank you will literally be losing thousands of dollars per day.
