We had one layoff recently, where there was a bunch of small meetings, and one big meeting. Small meetings were your boss explaining that you weren't laid off. Big meeting was HR explaining what the severence package was.

This actually happened to a coworker of mine:
They scheduled a meeting at a hotel 5 miles away.
Bussed everyone to the meeting.
Laid everyone off.
Didn't give them a ride back.
To get thier stuff, ie: purses they had to be escorted by security.

 That is both the most rediculous and most hilarious thing I've ever heard of a company doing!!!

You gotta be kidding me?? Maybe I have a lousy sense of humor, but that's not the kind of stuff to joke about.
They'd be seeing my 2 weeks notice soon.

I had a "work friend" - we met in training and had cubicles right next to each other - at a place I worked years ago. We were only on the job for like 3 weeks, so we got to know each other, but not outside of work. He seemed like a normal enough guy.

Then, he gets called in to the boss's office - no big deal. Next thing I know, security guys are rushing in to the boss's office and literally drag this guy kicking a screaming out the building. I never saw him again and never found out what happened. I don't know if he was fired for what he did in the boss's office or if he did what he did because he was being fired.

Fun thread to read!

I had my first job when I was 14. I worked for the same company as my dad did. It was a printing shop. He worked on their big color press, and I did yard work, ran errands, cleaned the place, etc. This was a decent sized company - probably 50 or so people working the day shift. It was about midday, and I was trimming bushes outside when everyone came outside. My dad said to get in the car, so I did and we both left. Apparently, the boss had called them all into a room and said that the company was moving away and none of them would be keeping their jobs. They had to immediately leave the building and were no longer employed. No severance anything. They didn't even have the gall to tell me - made my dad do it.

Went to work for a company where I supervised 2 other people, one of them being a district mgrs' fresh out of college son. 3 months in HR tells me (by phone) that they had a anonymous report that I was not working the actual hours on my timesheet and they fired me. But in reality I was there 1st and left last and let my guys off all the time. Low and behold, the mgrs; son gets the supervisor position, then leaves a month later for a job.

Long story short, district mgr and son got rid of me so son and be supervisor. I still plan on puching their faces in if I ever see them again.
