Just rear-ended a car

I just rear ended an Infinity G35, I barely hit him (much less so then the person who hit me right after). There are only the most minor places where the paint was scraped off on the bumper; I didn't even notice it the first time I looked.

He just wants me to pay for the cost of touching up the paint. Anyone have any idea what that will cost?

Edit: He got quotes ranging from $250 to $450 to repaint the bumper. Luckily the $250 place was who the dealer recommended.

I would budget $300-500. With a little luck you might get off easier, and I agree, he'll probably (and rightfully) want the bumper repainted rather than touched up. To bad the person didn't hit you 'right before' instead of 'right after':(

if the guy's just gonna buy the touch up paint and do it himself it'll be under $200 easy. Touchup paint for my friend's dad's lexus was like $75.

The person who hit me is a witness.

I agree, let insurance deal with it. :)

If it comes out to be more then my insurance increase would be, then I'd consider it. We traded insurance information just in case, but we don't want to have them deal with it if possible.

why go through insurance for a couple scratches? not worth the blemish on the driving record, and rate hikes.

Just pay for his touch up and move on with your life. It'll save you time and insurance money.

Someone that drives a G35 probably isn't the type that would try to screw you over.

I'd ask for a copy of the quote. If it's legitimate, I'd probably call insurance. However, that's one reason I asked here, to find out what a reasonable amount to expect is.

It's what I'm best at!

I knew someone would say something about it. I just associate a G35 with upper middle class.. and they usually aren't the people who try to scam you for a few hundred dollars. I know there are exceptions, and I'm not saying this is an absolute which applies to everyone making $60K a year.

Well, he got quotes ranging from $250 to $450 to repaint the bumper. Luckily the $250 place was who the dealer recommended. So, it sucks to have to pay, but it's much cheaper then insurance and he's not trying to scam me.

no way would I go through insurance for that. HOWEVER, write something up saying that the amount you're paying is the end of it, the matter is settled, etc. and make him sign it.
