Just realized that I'm terrible at

40sTheme

I've played through the campaign and have skirmished alot on normal/hard enemies (usually win), but I just began playing online and have gotten my butt handed to me 10 times in a row now. People are way too good at this game. Has anyone else experienced this?

same here lol, I can do good in sc and warcraft3tft but i always get my ass handed to me in CoH. Can't figure out why. So I moved on to C&C3 so far so good = )

as allies: spam riflemen, then get a halftrack upgraded with the quad cannon and a greyhound, then to finish them off get a crocodile sherman. always go airborne because that is the best doctrine by far. Airborne infantry with recoilless rifles will kill pumas or stugs if the axis player is dumb enough to build them. Airdrop AT guns to counter any tanks the axis player gets if they aren't dead by then. shermans with upgraded guns will kill any axis tank except a panther/tiger. M10's are extremely effective against Tigers, just circle them and they wont be able to turn their gun fast enough to get off a shot.

as axis: keep your volk squads at long range if you're fighting against allied riflemen. get grenadiers/sturmtroopers and hope you can hold off against the allied halftracks and greyhounds and crocs long enough to get to battle phase (or whatever the fourth phase is called) so you can get tanks and knights cross holders. dont build the third tech phase building that lets you build stugs and pumas and nebelwerfers, all of those are completely useless against what the allied players will throw against you. build a kampraft center to get veterency on your troops and tanks. blitz or defense doctrines are the strongest for axis. what I usually do as axis (probably will only work in 1vs1) is be blitz doctrine, spam volks squads and occasionally a MG42 until I get the 2 points required for sturmtroopers, then get those upgraded with panzershrecks to counter the inevitable allied vehicles that will come. a mix of sturmtroopers and volks with MP40's should hold you off long enough to get a Tiger tank when you get the required points. I also get veterency for my infantry units, go to the first level vet when you only have volks, go to the second level once you get your sturmtroopers. (2nd level veterency doesnt do anything for volks).

basically, if you're playing axis, you have a very low chance of winning if you're playing even a decent allied player. once the allies get to crocodile sherman tanks the game is pretty much over.

I'll join the club! I suck at games. 😛 The last game I was good at was Tribes. I don't invest the time to play much anymore and even if I did being near 40 probably doesn't help my reflexes. Maybe that's why I only play single player or coop multiplayer against the AI?

I had the same problem, company of heroes, along with dawn of war, follow the tradition of warcraft 3 of tesying who can micromanage individual units the best. CoH looks awesome but I just don't like the type of gameplay where you have to adjust your machine gunners firing arc manually, baby-sit AT guns, and circle strafe tanks like you were playing mechwarrior. I am a much bigger fan of the actual strategy games like RoN.

I was very good at it, but eventually got bored playing online. I got up to 7th overall ranked on allies in 2v2, and something like 18th for axis. The thing I didn't like was that to win I had to do the same thing almost everygame. People awlays rush the same spots, build the same things, so it left little room to do crazy stuff. It did happen sometimes, but most of the time its just the same thing. This is why I like SC a lot, so many units that ou can change waht you do everytime. I haven't tried it online though, SC isn't a game I want to play with people rushing like crazy. WC3 was probably my favorite RTS to play online ever. When everyone was caster rushing b4 the FT came out, me and my friend would rush siege and kill one of their players while they were trying to tech, good fun.

I disagree; the Crocodile Shermans have always caused me to lose. I hate the Axis, they're worthless. The times I have won I have gone armor company and started doling out M8s and Halftracks and used Raid to gain supply/strategic points and then, as soon as I could, rolled out as many Shermans as possible (maybe 1 Croc to clear building/AT) and a couple Tank Destroyers and just rolled over everything with my war machine. Lately, that has been failing me, however.
EDIT: I'm currently owning at C&C3, though. 10 refineries/20 harvesters FTW!! You can spam any unit you want and never run out of money.

Hehe dont feel bad, I havent been good at an RTS since the Starcraft. It seems like the complexity of the games has gone up but the speed hasnt slowed down.

That is why i have been into the combat mission series from battlefront. Games are way slower and much more realistic.

I suck bad at Multi too. Part of the problem is that all matches are unbalanced thanks to regular stat reses. Even worse is that it's hard to get games going without half your team dropping at the start. You can't turtle that well, and it's a bit more fast paced with less noob friendly feautures (e.g. armor = armor, unstoppable without AT weapons as opposed to caveman can kill tank in other games).

After spending countless years playing starcraft multiplayer, I have given up multiplayer for RTS games.
COH was an awesome game, I had a very fun time playing the campaign and played melee for a while.

No doubt I can learn the strategies and tactics on multiplayer, but is it worth it? There will always be people who spank you down at the game just because they spend so much more time gaming. Then again this can be said for all of multiplayer games. Maybe it's just my way of limiting my entertainment "game time"

I'm really good at COH and Dawn of war series but I suck at SC and WC3, I just built up my base instead of my army first and got owned every time...

I won't tell you my strategies, but its really getting down to using the appropriate units for the appropriate situations.

ALWAYS use your manpower, unless you are saving it for something, don't have it accumalate, build units, backup units.

I play axis only because allies is simply too easy, and axis is a bit more challeging at the start. But really, its about territory control and using your manpower and units wisely.

PS. Ranks don't matter in this game. Sometimes its a bug where your rank will show up as level 1, and many times expert players create a new login just to play level 1 people and have that advantage. So again, ranks don't matter much in this game.

Practice in 1vs1. You can get spanked early and it can be frustrating. If thats the case, try your luck with 2vs2, but then don't start complaining your ally sucks 🙂

I love this game, the only reason I still get on my PC now-a-days

danny~!

There has only been 1 stat reset as far as I know. But there was a bugg where the ranked servers were all messed up.. Right now its pretty balanced in terms of getting people that are flagged as your rank. Whether or not the experience and the rank level is the same is a whole different story since anyone can start over on a new username.
