OP, congrats on a better card and pocketng extra $$$ in the process
.
A 7850 is 10% faster than a 6950 when both are at stock. An Oced 7850 is about as fast as a 7950 so about 40-50% faster than a Oced 6950
While an overclocked 7850 can approach 7950 in some games, the 2nd part of your statement is not even close. I've seen you post this many times and I decided to call you on it because you are simply spreading false information without any proof that may leave potential upgraders, who are not as lucky as OP to have upgraded for "free", disappointed.
HD6950 OCed ~ HD6970. On average a GTX680 is 50-55% faster than an HD6970, while HD7970 is 40-45% faster. Can HD7850 OC reach GTX680 speeds? Nope. It can't even touch a stock 7970 on average. So how can it be 40-50% faster on average than an overclocked 6950? It can't be.
Also even from your own comments that an HD7850 OC = HD7950 but suddenly that means HD7950 is 40-50% faster than an overclocked 6950? Not sure if serious. Computerbase found that HD7950 is
18% faster than HD6970, not 40-50%. Hardware Canucks also found 7950 to be
18% faster overall and just 15% at 1080P over the 6970. Your numbers are
way off. HD7
950 would need to be overclocked to 1000-1050mhz to be 50% faster than an overclocked/unlocked 6950.
While it's an upgrade, it's more like 18-20% (25% is pushing it) on average if HD7850 is overclocked, not 40-50% as you claim. It could be 40-50% faster in few select games. But I mean we can pick select 1-2 games but there are
plenty of games where HD7850 is way slower than an HD6950 OC = HD6970 to begin with.
Overall, you are assigning this generation of mid-range cards way too much performance that's simply not there. Even when HD78
70 was overclocked to 1250mhz, it beat an HD6970 (Oced 6950) by 33% in a game where 6900 series is known to struggle. So how in the world can an overclocked HD7850 beat an overclocked 6950 by 40-50% on average since an overclocked 7850 would be slower than an overclocked 7870? :sneaky:
