Background -
June this year - 340 pds - 52-54 waist 3xl shirts

July this year - 320 pds - 50-52 waist 3xl shirts

August this year - 300 pds - 48 - 50 waist 3xl shirts

Now 288 lbs - 46 waist - 2xl shirts

Been biking - spin classes - elliptical - rowing - weight training - eating 2k calories a day.

6 hours cardio a week minimum (usually around 10).

Running has been elusive. Have been running 2 - walking 2 minutes. My heart rate finally does not hit max when running, and voila - able to go longer. A straight mile has been elusive until today. I ran 1.2 miles at 5.5 mph (straight through) - don't worry, I did alot more intervals (walk 2 run 2 for an hour) - but the 1.2 straight was unprecedented for me.

Anyway - noone else around me gets it and gets bored when I talk about all this - so I had to yay me just once - promise I won't do this too often.

Go ahead and call me a fatty, too - I need the motivation :p

My goal is to be my son's size before he goes to college. He is almost 17 - so I have over a year. He is my height and weighs 160lbs . . . so I've got about 130lbs to go

 Fuck Yeah!

Congratulations on your accomplishments in weight loss and running. Keep up the good work!

Also you seem to be doing fine so far, but if you ever run into issues later head on over to the Health & Fitness subforum. The fatloss sticky is generally a good read, and the posters are generally helpful.

Good job, fatty! Once you can run a mile like that then you should be able to do more. Sign yourself up for a 5K and make your goal to run it in 33 minutes or so. I'll bet you can do it. :)

BTW, I assume the others around you who don't get it are large people who don't think it's a big deal?

How is it your first time running it?

Did you never have gym or did you get a excuse to get out of it? :p

good work, man

I've found that becoming temporarily obsessed with exercise is the only sure bet to losing a lot of weight. Later you can worry about developing sustainable eating/work-out habits..

fatty

jk. utmost respect, man. i'm not fat but I have a horrible time running - can barely keep up 2/2 walk/run for half an hour. hoping to get some more motivation this semester, my friend is training for a triathlon and I'm hoping to pull some of his training enthusiasm.

Damn. How are you losing 20lbs a month? That's ridiculous...

I've seen your pics of arms so small you can't properly hold a long sleeve shirt fold. If you lost 20 pounds you would be back in the womb. Fat people can shed pounds pretty quickly at first but it will eventually slow down.

OP, I continue to use the term 'fat' per your request. ;)

Well my basal metabolic rate according to my vo2 max and my resting heart rate (which is now 54 was 85) say that I burn 2650 calories a day just sitting still. Add my standing job - I am circa needing 3400 calories a day to function and maintain my weight.

So, I am only eating 2000 a day usually (I still have splurge night out twice monthly with the wife). So normally with no exercise I am at a 1400 calorie a day deficit x 7 days. 7 x 1400 is 9800 calories a week almost or 39,200 a month deficit. So now add my cardio. I'll use last week as an example. I did 3 spin classes x 45 minutes. I pedal 17 miles each class with a CONSERVATIVE calorie burn of 30 calories per mile. That is 510 x 3 - an additional 1500 calories x 4 another 6000 calories deficit per month. So now I am up to 45,200 calorie deficit. Also last week, I interval trained (2 run 2 walk) for an hour twice. CONSERVATIVE calorie burns of at least 600 per hour (probably more). But lets call that 1200 x 4 - well I'm up to around a 50,000 calorie deficit / 3500 calories per pound of body fat. That is 14 lbs right there.

I'm not even counting my walking to work (6 miles round trip daily), and my new hip hop dancing class I've been going to at least once a week. Plus some days, I don't make my 2000 calories because I'm tired or I get full. On one of my splurges last week, I could only finish 1/4 of the fajitas that were brought to me at a mexican restaurant. I use to wolf the whole thing down. It became breakfast AND lunch the next day.

Now, I realize the smaller I get the less calories I burn - so I'm upping intensity and adding strength training. I did an hour today with a personal trainer in the gym learning about the weights. I figure I'll pay him at least twice more until I get some knowledge of what I should be doing. Starting tommorrow, I add weight training to all of this. .. . O and by the way I can leg press all the weight on the machine 20 times (thank you bicycling - 430lbs). . . My legs are starting to look like tree trunks and are getting defined. My upper body - not so much. I couldn't even pull off one crunch on the crazy ab machine - so he put me on leg raises to start abdominal excercises.

Never been in a gym in my life (other than in high school for a while). I seem to remember, I even walked the miles there haha. A membership gym, no. To tell the truth I was intimidated. I didn't want to go in with all the 'in shape' people. When I finally got the desire to do it, I found that most ppl don't even look at you, and I've been a lot more chill. I'm in my mid 30's. . . so it has been a while since 'gym' class was around.

UMMmm, I just started running again last week and I did 5k on my 2nd run. First run was a light 1 mile refresher. Aiming to get back in shape, probably going to doing the 10k in two weeks.

You're brave to post this on ATOT. Usually, threads about fat people are like a feeding frenzy for the haters. Kudo to you and persevere.

Best of luck.

Lol there's no way I could do something like that. I'm happy with my 9.5-10m miles but then again I run for distance. More power to you though if you can keep up that pace for several miles. That's awesome. :)

lol i think you are over complicating weight loss :)

but keep up the good work fatty :)

i can say this because i am an ex-fatty 250 to 200 in 5 months (see H&F post)

but you will be happy to know you arent considered a fatty any more when you finally reach your goal.

Keep at it!
