Hey guys,

Finally quit wow after selling my accounts and restarting more than 3 times. Every time I quit I end up coming back as other games just don't compare. What games should I add to my collection? I am more an RPG/RTS kinda guy but I like FPS too.

I am really looking for a nice RPG that has alot of replayability. Currently Oblivion is helping to ease the pain.

Games I have: CoD4, Orange Box, Oblivion, AoE 3

Favorite Games: Star Control series, Pax Imperia, WoW, Masters of Orion, Masters of Magic

Games I'm thinking of getting : Sins of a solar empire

Like I said, if anyone has an idea for a great RPG let me know, MMORPG's are always good but WoW has been taking everything over. Also not interested in EVE tbh.

Thanks in advance all you wonderful people!

The only good RPGs out right now are The Witcher and NWN2/MotB, possibly the upcoming Mysteries of the Westgate adventure pack for NWN2.

Yeah, I've played NWN2 before..and I really WANTED to like it but the controls and the graphics are a bit dated...

I dunno...I did like the amount of character customization in that game though..

All the people I know that quit (including myself) switched to heroin instead. It really takes the edge off.

EQ2 may be a good fit for you if you want to do an MMORPG. Otherwise, get a Wii and play console games :p The PC market is fairly spartan right now outside of what you have. Sins of a Solar Empire is supposed to be good though, so I'd probably get that. Also, look into The Witcher.

Titan Quest maybe? Personally, I haven't found any RPGs with a whole lot of replayability short of Oblivion and WoW for a while now. Many would disagree though so I guess it comes down to your tastes. I am thoroughly enjoying Lost Odyssey atm but I doubt I will start another game of it from scratch once I complete everything I want to do with it. That may change a few years down the road when I am in the mood to enjoy the story again but that's about it.

When I think replayability, I think about playing through again after I finished it once. Oblivion's encounters aren't random are they? I know the story line stays the same. I will say that if you can stand it to keep playing it, it would last you a pretty long time.

I could never finish it myself. Got way to repetitive and tedious for me.

Also I already have a wii, but I really like Character progression games. So far Oblivion isn't that bad, I do realize it will get tedious after a bit of playing. As the previous poster had said Neverwinter Nights 2, I loved the character creation and customization but hated the actually gameplay and graphics..

I don't think I could do EQ2. I don't know. I don't think they make games as well as they used to. Too much eye candy not enough content.

Guess I'll just have to wait till spore comes out..had it on pre-order for 2 years now...lol.

Hellgate: London so I have read might be finally getting polished enough to try. It's character progression anyway... with lots of itemz. I have not tried it in about 3 months tho.

I highly doubt that. Had you been working at a real job all of those hours, you'd have thousands of more dollars to your name. However, I can't really talk because I logged 114 days played in 1.1years. Then I quit. And then 5 months later sold my account for $100.

Anyway, check out The Witcher. Hellgate London was terrible the last time I played. (2-3 months ago).

When I was taking a break from WoW I tried to play oblivion but I just couldn't get into it. The world seemed so boring and lonely without other people in it.

Go buy baldur's gate/icewind dale/planescape:torment on amazon or ebay. 8 classic, highly rated RPG's (especially planescape) for ~$150 should keep you busy for a while.

Based on your favorite games, I'd recommend: Sins of a Solar Empire, Galactic Civilizations 2, Medieval Total War 2, and Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines for an rpg.

Or do what most MMO players do which is both? This is such a silly thing to say. Stop being sucked in by the internet so much and use your own judgment. There are over 10,000,000 subscriptions to WoW alone. Do you honestly believe that most of these subscribers live in front of their computers? That is a very false assumption. It might be their favorite hobby but that doesn't mean they do not have lives outside of that hobby.

lol, it had a lot of potential.... The multiplayer (partying) just was not good. I could go on and on... but lets stay on topic.

Not an RPG, but give Dreamfall: The Longest Journey a try if you like a more mature story line. It's like playing a drama movie.

LOL! You know it was poking a jab at Powernick! Sheesh! Calm down! :p

In all honesty, I would say that there is a good portion of those 10 million subscriptions that, for all intents, WoW is their life. I would verture a guess that a conservative guestimate is 20% of those are multi-account owners. I would also venture a guess that a good 40% would be hardcore gamers - the kind you see doing the back to back raids, for 12 hours at a time.

I am sorry, but as a former WoW-crack addict myself, it's a very true assumption. If you consider (as an example) an adult "gamer" waking up, logging into WoW for 30 minutes to check his/her auctions, logging off, going to work, stopping at McDonald's on the way home for dinner, logging into WoW to raid for the next 8 hours, getting 6 hours of sleep, then repeating the process the next day a life, then more power to you.

I will agree there are more then "a few" casual gamers in WoW. But this right here from the OP's post says it all:

Finally quit wow after selling my accounts and restarting more than 3 times. Every time I quit I end up coming back as other games just don't compare. What games should I add to my collection? I am more an RPG/RTS kinda guy but I like FPS too.

In any event, Powernick! Get Sins!!! It is much wonderous goodness! I have yet to even try Multiplayer...

I don't even think that 40% of the WoW community raids let alone raid back to back for 12 hours at a time. For shits and giggles, let's play with some numbers. Keep in mind that I chose to do this more so out my own curiosity than anything. It was kind of fun. :)

Things we know:

1. There are over 10,000,000 subscribers
2. There are sites which scan the armory and produce data that ranks guilds in terms of raid progression such wowjutsu.
3. Based on wowjutsu, my guild ranks at about 3000 or so. Keep in mind we are a casual raiding guild meaning 2 nights a week at about 3.5-4 hours per night. We just hit Hyjal.

Let's make some reasonable estimates:

1. We have about 40 people total which raid. About 30 of them raid regularly. However, let's just assume all 40 raid regularly.
2. Let's also assume that the other 3000 guilds have 40 people who raid regularly.
3. These 3000 guilds are not all hardcore raiders putting in the hours you are suggesting, but let's assume they all do anyways just to make the number easier and it should provide an over estimate.
4. Let's go ahead and run some separate calculations assuming that 20% of accounts are owned by multi-account owners.

The math:

3000 * 40 = 120000 raiders

120000/10000000 = 0.012

0.012 = 1.2%

Therefore, assuming the top 3000 guilds are all hardcore raiders (obviously if my guild is a part of that bunch then this assumption is false), no guilds below that rank consist of the hardcore type, and they all have 40 members then we are talking 1.2% of all wow subscribers. That's much less than 40%.

To be fair and hopefully lessen the margin of error, lets bump up the number of raiders in each of these guilds from 40 to 100 which is obviously an overestimate but it might make up for my use of the 3000 number.

3000 * 100 = 300000 raiders

300000/10000000 = 0.03

0.03 = 3.0%

3% vs 40%

Performing the same calculations assuming your estimate that 20% of the accounts are multi-account owners means we just need to exchange the 10000000 number for 8000000.

3000 * 40 = 120000 raiders

120000/8000000 = 0.015

0.015 = 1.5%

or...

3000 * 100 = 300000 raiders

300000/8000000 = 0.0375

0.0375 = 3.75%

Now, do I honestly care if this stereotype about the average WoW player revolving their entire lives around the game continues to spread? Not really. I am sick of hearing it because it is obviously false, but I don't take it personally. I hope that the above estimates (even when considering some margin of error) put things in better perspective though.

The best RPG I play all the time is CS:S. The best part is that I can disconnect in the middle of a fight and there's no harm. :)
