I'm about to give up and return everything

I have the asrock extreme 4 1155 motherboard
corsair hx650w ps
gigabyte 7950 wf3 video
8x2 (16 total) corsair vengence ram
core i5 3570k w/ stock cooler

This isn't the first computer i've built either

I have the hdmi out to a tv i'm using for testing

If I press the power button the fans start spinning but as soon as I let go, they stop.

I tried puting the hdmi from the video card and the mother board, no luck

i pulled the video card and just went off the mother board. no luck.

if i remove all the jumpers for the front panel and just use the built in power switch on the motherboard the fans will spin without me holding it but it still wont start and get to bios

i've tried two different power supplies

is the mother board just bad?

Try with just one stick of RAM, to rule that out. If everything is connected properly, then yes it sounds like a bad board.

I just did that. I tried one stick. I tried the other stick. I tried different DIMM sockets. Still same problem.

This mother board has a "Dr Debug" feature that gives you codes as it boots. It's never lit up at all.

Like it sounds like you have already done, take everything out except the CPU and one stick of RAM... and I'm assuming you have a drive in there somewhere. Reset the CMOS... and try it again.

I had better luck using VGA or DVI cables rather than HDMI... I don't know why... maybe try that.

Do you have another PSU you can try?

Ok...making some progress.

First- I do have another PSU. I have a Corsair VX 450. I tried that. Same result.

BUT

I just took out the drives and the motherboard and did a boot with just the CPU, PSU and one stick of memory. It finally posted.

I'm thinking it may be a short in the case or something? Is that a possibility??

Make sure the motherboard isn't screwed on too tightly. I had that happen to me and it would not boot. I believe it was actually touching the case.

Ok..rail dogg, i think you're right.

I just "rebuilt" the computer entirely outside of the case and what do you know...no problem.

i'm going to try the case again...keeping my fingers crossed.
