Just powered on my computer for the first time (Newb Question)

Just powered up my computer, all the fans worked, the LCD lights came on, the motherboard light came on..... everything went great. Except my recently purchased Samsung monitor wont show me anything.... shouldn't it show me something?.... even though I have no operating system or anything yet. My monitor light keeps blinking which leads me to believe its in a standby mode but how do I get it just to stay on.... The monitor is a Samsung 740N

If you're running a single video card, make sure you have it in the correct slot. If you're using just one card, only one slot may function.

Check all cables. Best first step. Then reseat video card. Then report resuts back to us.

I checked all the cables before I turned it on, they all looked good. However is their a cable i should pay special attention to? Ill go remove my video card and reseat it. By the way When the monitor is not plugged into the video card... it reads checking cable singal... but as soon as I plug it in it goes into a stanby mode and starts blinking.

Do you have another monitor to test that computer with? It may not be the monitor and it could be the video card instead.

it is VGA.... im going to switch my video card into the other slot. even though i believe i have it in the correct one. If that doesnt fix the problem I will try another monitor.

update: I plugged my new monitor into another computer and it worked fine...

I reseated my ram and my video card no improvement...... I am sure my video cards is in the right slot.... I have pictures of my computer setup if anyone thinks they may notice a problem by looking at them. But im starting to believe I have a faulty video card 🙁

ok so I just found a problem.... Theres two power cables going into the motherboard and I only had 1 connected... so now after starting up the computer... I hear a repetive beep but still no picture. What is this repetive beep?

there should be a guide in either you manual or your mobo manufacturer's website that will decipher the beep codes for you

fixed it... thanks to all replys... The video card power came unplugged when I was putting the big black thing (Dunno the name) back on. And I apologize to the original guy who told me to double check all my cables for some reason I didn't check that one.

Thanks to all help. Its very appreciated.

Ha, I knew it.

Raven, I gotta give you props. Not many people actually come back and admit that they screwed up.

Glad you got it figured out!

More props for you Raven. I wish more of us could put pride aside when a self inflicted
problem is resolved.

Thank you for the Foner link -z
It's been saved. Flowcharts for problem solving are

You should save the link Raven 😉
