I played True Crime for about half an hour and wasnt really impressed with it. I like GTA better and went with that one. Plus with GTA you get TWO games for the price of one!

well i bought gta3 for my computer back when it was first available, and it never really caught my attention - maybe it was just the format though, because vice city was pretty damn fun on my friends' ps2.

if you have live check out Crimson Skies...its very fun over LIVE. the single player game isnt bad either. Other than that, i played Prince of Persia at Circuit City and its pretty fun., plus it has amazing graphics.

It's an awesome game with great graphics. The cars he drives are so nice. The fighting and driving is so cool. Go for it.

Dont open TC. Its a pretty short game and while the city is absoulty huge theres not really much to do. Its a rental, but not worth purchasing.

As for other games.

Rent Max Payne 2, only takes about 10 hours to beat it.
Amped 2 is great. One of my fav games on the Xbox. Lots of fun and challegengin. It can be a bit too difficult for some though
XIII, pretty good single player mode but multiplayer leaves a lot to be desired

You might want to check out Project Gotham Racing 2.
Lengthy and challenging single player and Multiplayer, espeically on Live is great.

I lived Downtown for four years (USC) and was sorely disappointed by the game.

1. The game isn't exactly in "los angeles," it's in a city that has exactly the same topography and street layout as Los Angeles. I realize what a huge undertaking it would be to make it EXACT but given that most streets are just endlessly repeating textures and models make the whole "OMG WHOLE CITY MAPPED IN GAME" gimmick a bit bland. I mean, USC campus is completely gone, as are many major landmarks (i.e. Shrine)

2. The AI is broken. Period. I'm sorry, but when a crook spawns on top of the freeway going the wrong direction, and endlessly rams his car into the divider until it blows up, then runs through traffic into the distance, you begin to think that maybe it needed some tweaking.

3. Logistics are flawed. Okay, so you're breaking up the FIFTH old-lady-catfight in a row, and pull up with sirens blazing. They both stick their hands up in the air. You get out to cuff them and for no reason one decides to charge you and attack you viciously -- and not only deals more damage than a 7-foot black gangster but also takes just as many hits to take down, the other one runs off down the street. Catching up to her, she turns around and whips out a gun and starts blasting you. DOES NOT COMPUTE. Random encounters aren't that random and character behavior is like GTA on "world gone crazy" mode.

4. Physics need tweaking. Most of the cars handle almost exactly the same, have sluggish steering, and do not have nearly as much variety as GTA3 vehicles. I know that this is not GTA3 nor is it trying to be, but it can at least use it as a benchmark for 3rd party midtown driving simulations. In short, driving is a pain in the ass.

5. Clipping is broken. I've hit imaginary objects, seen people get stuck, and worst of all, I drove under a bridge only to be launched 100 feet into the air for no reason. HELLO QUALITY ASSURANCE ARE YOU AWAKE?

6. Hand to hand combat is awkward. Hard to describe, it's just clunky and could have been done better.

This is a classic case of a "Jack of all Trades" game where too much ambition and too little time make for a mediocre game. I can say that with maybe 6 more months of development tweaking this could be FANTASTIC. I'll wait for a sequel.

In the meantime, the following games have my highest reccomendations:

- Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (Most. Fun. Ever.)
- Manhunt (Rockstar. Enough said.)
- Freedom Fighters (old school arcadey action)
- Beyond Good and Evil (unique platformer)

Its a dogfighting game. It takes place in an alternate 1930's time frame. The planes are pretty awesome. There is about 10 different ones and they all have different weapons strenghs/weaknesses...its one of the best LIVE games i've played. It might sound like it kind of sucks but at least rent it and give it a shot. The graphics are pretty awesome on it too.

I agree it doesn't have all the landmarks, but to be able to go on the freeways and see all (or most of) the exits where they're supposed to be, and be able to turn onto every street where they're supposed to be was quite an experience.

But yeah, it was fun for about 30 minutes, then the novelty went away..

XIII. . .good presentation, but some levels are just plain frustrating. The auto save points are also placed in odd places, in my opinion. I hated having to fight for 5 minutes just to get to the part where I was stuck.

yuck i hate that. but i'm not going to let that keep me from getting the game, if it's worth switching for true crime. aside from the frustrating save points, how did you like the game?
