and wow, it takes some seriously good pics. I am very much a camera noob and moving up from a SD850IS.

Honestly, if i knew about the S90 beforehand, i would have purchased that instead, but i might get my sister or GF to pick that one up. reviews around the interwebz say it has the same image processor, lens and good stuff, minus HD video which i could care less about.

The S90 is in a form factor very similar to the SD850IS (i can fit in pocket). But can someone tell me what the disadvantages are to the G11 in plain english?

Looking at the specs side-by-side, it looks like the only differences is the G11 has a hotshoe (which will let you use an external flash unit) and the tele end of the zoom is a little longer (you can get far things a slight amount closer).

The lens is a lot sharper, has less distortion (but is slower). It also has the fold out screen which is highly useful. And imho quicker easier manual controls. Then again, it's also a lot larger. If you like the size of the G11 i'd get it, if it's too big, get the S90. :) Also the optical viewfinder is useable, despite what people say. Not ideal, but it's useful.
