Just picked up an AMR Modem and could not make it to work?

I've never owned an AMR modem before. But just pick one (plain OEM no driver and manual) at Computer Show. And the thing never works on my two boards MSI 6309 SIS 694X chipset and Abit WB6 810 Intel chipset. I don't even know who made it either. But I believe it is base on PCTel chipset. Anyhow, I tried drivers from PCtel and Ampton website but could not make the thing to work. So please help.

Help me find the correct driver for it. Is it an AMR HSP56MR Modem? There is a sticker on it stated,

Model: FB PCTEL AMR
Reg. No:6WICHN-35714-M5-E
Cyber soulution Corporation
Made in China.

Thanks in advance.

Just want to clarify to my ealier post. Windows found new hardware (PCI communication) but the drivers from PCtel and Ampton still not work. I still need help please.

hmmmm....i just installed two of those very same AMR modems w/ PCtel chipsets in two ECS K7S5A mobos, no problem whatsoever..

enable onboard modem in BIOS, and use the drivers, not from PCtel's site, but from your mobo manufacturer's site...at least, that's what i did and it worked right from the get-go...i downloaded the drivers from ECS' website...try those if you want...they may in fact work.

Hi nortexoid,

I installed the modem on two boards one use VIA and other use Intel chipset. The ECS use SIS chipset, I believe. Does it make any different? Also, I am not so sure what the model for this modem either.

it doesn't make a difference, as far as I know...they mostly (or all?) use the HSP56 driver for PCtel.

i'm not sure if tha's a PCtel specific driver or not tho...haven't looked into...it might be a generic driver for AMR modems or certain chipsets (i.e. generic rockwell drivers)..

there's no harm in trying.

amdemall linkified it for ya

Thanks alot Anand Members.

I download driver from AmdEmAll provided and now the thing works like a charm full 52k/ps (my old one only connect at 50K). One minor proplem is that there is no sound tone from the modem but that's OK.

Thanks again guys.

there's no onboard speaker, so the modem driver is accompanied by a modem sound driver so it can play thru your speakers...

check your device manager under sound and see if the sound driver for hte modem is there...i think it's called uniduplex or something...

Thanks again Nortexoid.

Under device manager listed as "Wave device for voice modem".

And you're right! I connect my speaker to the sound card and now I can hear the modem tone!

All solved.

God bless you all.
