I've wanted one of these since I was a kid. Was made in 1950 (so pre-64), couple of scratches and some surface rust, just buffed that out with some WD 40 and some steel wool.

w00t. :)

Thinking about eventually picking up a Magnum Research BFR chambered in .30-30 now.

Photos!

Are you going to re-blue it?

Think I'll try and take pics later tonight. Yeah, going to stop by one of the local ranges and pick up a bluing kit tomorrow.

Excellent!

The pre-64 thing refers to bolt action Winchesters, however...

:Q

When was this? Is it still in good condition? Want to sell it?

One of the first rifles I ever owned. (First was a Ruger 10-22 or similar way back in the mid-60's) Made meat out of my first deer at 14 with my Model 94. (probably very similar vintage to the OP's)

I still have my FiL's Model 70 30.06. It's a pre-64 model...(sometime in the 50's IIRC, but don't remember the exact year...and too lazy to look it up) and my MiL's Marlin .32 Special lever action rifle. Nice little deer rifle too. MY wife brought down a couple of whitetails with it when she was young.

We keep talking about getting rid of them since I'm no longer able to hunt, but there's still some sentimental value to them that she just can't get past.

Grats! You should take some pics once you get her all blued up! How's the bore look?

My step father has an expansive Winchester collection, with a few 94s. The .30-30 is probably one of the most practical loads out there, although I love the .357Mag version as a ranch rifle.

I'd probably still reach for my tweaked 88 for a hunt, but would jump on a 94 in a heartbeat if the condition/price was right.

it was 1990ish.
i assume it is still in good shape, probably pretty dusty.
i have no idea what it's worth, or how to go about selling it.

Speaking of guns, i need to get a FOID card :\

It looked ok, but I haven't had a chance to test her out yet.

I'd love to get a .44 someday, especially to pair with a S&W Model 29.

I've always been of the understanding that rebluing a gun (especially one that has collector's value such as this one) will take quite a bit from the value of the piece. Are you SURE you want to do this?
There are a few GOOD gunsmiths who can do the job right and not (seriously) detract from the overall value of the rifle.

Most collectors I've known would rather have a gun with some wear on it than one that's had a botched bluing and polishing job done...

I'm not hell bent on doing it. I'd rather have a functional gun with some wear and tear that I can actually use than one that's in pristine condition but that I'm afraid to take into the field. I'll see if I can find a local gunsmith who will do it and add it to my list of things to do. :)

Depending on the condition of the rifle now, it COULD be a relatively simple job to hot-blue it...or it COULD need some serious polishing first. It takes a GOOD gunsmith to properly polish an old gun so that things such as serial numbers and lettering don't get damaged or blurred, nor wavy lines left in the finish.

I don't know if I'd trust just any local gunsmith to do the job...I'd do some serious research first...

My old Winchester Model 70 is worn. It was used every year from the time it was built till my FiL died...and brought down too many deer and elk to count.
The stock has a few nicks and scratches, the bluing is worn in a few places, but it's in excellent shooting condition, I take it down and clean & oil it every year even though it hasn't been shot in over 15 years...
Damn...IIRC, the last time this gun was shot was about 92...<sigh> I know the Marlin .32 hasn't been used to hunt since the late 60's, and probably hasn't ben shot since the mid-80's. (sweet little lever action rifle. shoots hella straight and flat.)
