It only occurs to me now that OEM sometimes cripples a card as it does with the Radeon... and ideas here? Also, when I get this card installed and running, I'll let you all know how it runs if you want to pick one up at OCIE.COM. Keep in mind it does not include a fan, but I'd just assume plop on a better one anyhow.

Topic #2:

Why the heck does Windows 2000 boot to a blank screen righ before it would go to desktop? In order to get it to boot to the desktop properly, I have to boot into VGA mode, then restart and let it boot normally. wtf? PLease help!

What do you mean by "boot to a blank screen"? Like completely black or completely blue (default win2k background color)? Is this right after you login? How long have you waited for it to boot up? I'd say your video drivers are messed up but some more info would be helpful :).

Sure, righ after loging in it boots to a black screen, with no response from the keyboard. I was presuming it was video related as well since it boots into vga mode no problemo, as well as the fact that I used to get freaky mouse icon artifacts in any Win9x os that shotrly thereafter would lead to a freeze. I think the card itself is a bit fried being that if I let it "warm up" for about twenty minutes, no artifacts, no freezing. That's why I ordered the new GTS card (had one by eVGA but I fried it during the instalation of the MSI board; loose power cord to the PS made the power flicker on and off a couple of times in quick succession, fark.)

I had a problem like that, it ended up just being the stability of my video card. Not sure if it was power or heat. I ended up turning off Fast write in the Bios and also buying a 450watt psupply. Although, if yours goes black everytime at the exact same point I would think it would be your resolution settings after logging in (unsupported?) or the actual drivers. Have you tried playing with the drivers in VGA mode? Setting everything back to default?

I had that blank desktop problem when I had switched monitors. I think it was because i had been using a monitor at a high resolution and a high refresh rate, and i went to using a monitor with a lower refresh rate and a low resolution, and my monitor had been set to default, and not plug and play i nwin2k, so basically it was still sending the old refresh rate to the monitor, causing a blank screen when win2k went to the desktop, i went into safe mode, uninstalled the video card in the device manager, rebooted, got a desktop then, and loaded the drivers again to get rid of that problem.

I've tried 6.49 for W2K and the most recent V7.x, both of which produced the same result. As for the power supply, it's some no name 350w from fry's... the culprit? Hope not as I just purchased that darn thing. The resolution remains @ 1024x780 32bit during the whole predescribed process, and eventually takes when I go from VGA mode to standard mode a warm boot. I think the card is a bit fried myself as it runs Giants like crap; I think it should do a bit better than 11fps @640x480 max settings. Probably a bad memory chip or something.

uh.. i had a problem w/ that. try disabled AGP 4x. i forgot what platform it was on, but i had to disable AGP 4x.. that blank screen is when windows initializes the video drivers... my 2 cents.
