Just picked up a Canon HF S10

i have been between sony and canon for a long time, using an older sony avchd camera and a canon hv20. i decided to leave the sony house, and move up in the canon house.

i got the hf s10 because it looks like from all it offers it will be hard to top, at least this year. once i get a chance to use it and run it through it's paces, i'll let you all know how well it does.

Whoohoo, new toys! 😀 The S10 is a beast, be sure to post some samples on Vimeo!

Will do.

Bah, that's the worst part. And if you get impatient and plug it in anyway, you get even less play time! haha

well, i just shot a little over a minute at full bitrate, 24p(60i) and brought it into FCP with prores 1920x1080 24p 48hz then printed it out and burned it to dvd as blu ray. about to stick in my ps3 to see how well it did.

i noticed that transcoding is a lot slower, but the footage looks good once it brings it over 24p.

i burned the footage through toast 9 as blu ray on a dvd and it looked really good. i really like how well this camera shoots.
when the sun is out i'll get some outdoors footage and post it.

Nice...wish I have the moolah to get this but probably will settle for the cheaper HF100 for my upcoming trip.🙂

i was going to get the hf s100, but when i saw the 10, i just figured, oh well. i know the price difference isn't worth the 32gig's but it is nice to be able to carry 32 internal and 16 external and not have to worry about anything.

i had to get a new mic, my old one doesn't fit, thanks canon, but thats okay. new toys are always good. once i get it tomorrow i'll post some pics and load up some video. its been nice and sunny here so i can have some fun outside.

I'm in the market for a digicam to replace my trusty PS A75, which was the replacement for my trusty A40 after it died (not so trusty, I guess). The A75 is going on the blink and I want to step up one level, so I've been looking at the reviews and comparisons.

GOOD GRIEF! What happened in the past two years? Everyone is making a good camera these days at almost every price point, usually more than one model!

I've got buyer paralysis.

I miss my A75 🙁 It took so much abuse and took such great pictures...sigh...

So I'm guessing this HF S10 is great in low light conditions?

well, in 24p(60i) mode it's not bad. i have read a lot of places where they say it just doesn't do as well as other canons, but to tell you the truth i have no complaints about the low light of the camera.

then again, i didn't buy it to shoot in the dark. i always wondered why people complain about high end consumer cameras shooting poorly in the dark or in the late evening. you never hear people complain about dslrs shooting poorly in the dark without a flash or an external light.
