Just passed the Comptia Security+ Exam

Passed the Comptia Security Plus exam today. Now that gives me A+, Network+, Security+, and Server+. I also posses my MS certifications in WINNT 4.0 Server, and workstation. Windows 2000 Server, W2K Pro, Infrastructure, Active Directory, and MCSA. No having the combination of 2 of the Comptia certs, one being the Security+, I am also a MCSA with Security. 1 more blasted test, and I will get the MCSE.

I know some of you don't really think these certs are all that much to brag about, but for me, at 39, no degree, and self teaching myself all this stuff......................I feel like I am finally accomplishing something.

That's it. I took it in high school. The CompTIA tests are a freaking joke. I could take the network/server ones cold and probably pass. I could probably pass half the MCSE w/o studying.

Though the MCSE is better than the CompTIA stuff IF you actually know the material and don't just memorize a braindump.

I know the material, but the braindumps are good because they let you know what type of answer is being sought on the test, which we all know, in no way, actually relates to how things work in real life.

Congrats. The test really doesn't assure you know the material just that you can pass the test. That is why I went to school and studied for my MCSE. I will attemping my certs very soon since I recently finished the course.

Sorry to be asking a question for myself in your thread...but how hard are the CompTia A+ exams? I'm a sophmore in highschool, and Im finishing up some online courses, and I plan to take the A+ exam in the summer sometime. Are they a "joke" like Idin said? THANKS

Most of the Comptia stuff is real easy to pass. A+ was somewhat too easy. I passed both exams in 20 mins flat.

The Hardware test is, the Software one, you do need to know a little bit. I wouldn't say it's a "joke" as you need to know more than the average user. But it is far from difficult.

Congrats, a thing about certs that my mom once told me (20 years in the industry including 3 years in the CTO position for the state) "Employers realize that a certification doesn't imply a working knowledge of the material, and while experience is preferred, a certification shows that you are willing to do the extra work necessary to stay abreast of current technology" You also generally start a new position higher on the pay range than someone without a certification.

So what kind of stuff did you need to know to pass? Do you feel like you accomplished something because you passed the test, or because you learned something useful?
