Just passed my road test

I just passed my road test on the first try. Everyone makes it seem harder than it is. This is what my test consisted of: Go straight, make a right, make a left, parallel park, make another left, three-point turn, then return. It was such a joke. Well, just expressing my happiness. Now all I have to do is convince my employer to write a letter stating I work for them so I can drive to work with my junior license. I don't turn 17 until September. Does anyone know if NY State requires the letter to be on official letterhead, or just signed by the employer with a contact number?

What's a junior license? Here in CA, you get your license at 16, they have some restrictions for the first 6 months (can't drive other young people around late at night and stuff), but you can certainly drive to work.

I'm so happy I got in before they started adding all those restrictions. When I was 16, I had a full fledged licence (5 years ago). I don't know what the new restrictions are though.

Which is never followed and/or enforced. :p

Basically, in NY you have a permit, juniuor license, and license. In NY, you can get a full license at 17 with the completion of a road safety course (drivers ed), or 18 without it. You can, however, take your road test at 16 if you completed 5 hours worth of driver ed (we get something known as a 5 hour card). This allows me to go take the road test. But, because I am under 17, I can only get a junior license. This junior license allows me to drive to and from work, or to and from a college program. We also have a 6 month probation period. If we get 2 movin violations during the probation period, our license will get suspended. But, if I am cought driving with my junior license without proof of work or college program, then it will be suspended until I am 21. Also, with a permit and junior license you can only drive between the hours of 5 am to 9 pm.

Wow, NY is a lot more restrictive. I jsut looked it up, and these are the restrictions in CA, copied from the DMV's website. Note that they only apply to people who are between 16 and 18.

During the first six months you are licensed to drive you must be accompanied by a driver 25 years of age or older if you drive between the hours of 12 midnight and 5 a.m. or if you have passengers under the age of 20 in the car at any time.

During the second six months, you must still be accompanied by a driver 25 years of age or older if you drive between the hours of 12 midnight and 5 a.m. You may have passengers under the age of 20 in the car without supervision between the hours of 5 a.m. and midnight.

Lucky basitd. I should also mention I live in Nassau n New York. New York has different restrictions based on where you live. Basically, NYC is the most restrictive, Long Island is less, and upstate is so unrestricted it's not even funny. Different laws apply to the different areas right now.

Eh, when I got my license, there were no age based restrictions. I passed the test and could drive anywhere, with any people, at any time a 40 year old could :)

I assume what you stated above was for your area, then?

When I was 16, they made me take a written test (with the book open) and drive around the block making only right-hand turns.

Was cake.

So, does anyone know what kind of letter you need to drive with a junior license? Do I need one on official letterhead, or just signed with a contact number?

God bless the South.

1. No emissions test.
2. Few cops.
3. Long stretches of roads at high speed limits.

Why? The conservatives here don't want to pay taxes. We have no budget for railway systems, cops, or vehicle inspections.

(God help the one who needs government assistance here.)

Don't forget that in most of the South, radar/laser detectors/jammers are also legal. (except for active radar jammers)

Congrats, try takin that test in the city and I don't think you would be calling it easy. I've been driving here for 7 months and I'm 17. My friends have gotten pulled over w/ junior licenses and the cops don't care. GL

It's even more restrictive here in BC, Canada. For the first six months you can't drive between midnight and 5 am at all and you can not have more than one passenger. I think this period is going to be changed to a year or two years or something...

Here in MO (also reffered to as the fifth circle by Dante) the restrictions are no driving past 2am (why the hell would a 16 year old be out that late anyway?), must accumulate x amount of hours (I think its 20) of driving with your legal guardian, cannot drive without someone 21 years of age or older in the vehicle with you for the first 6 months....

Also I think you have to accumulate the 20 hours within a certain period of time, i.e. much like your cell phone minutes, and dead prostitutes, they don't roll over.

Hehehe....dead prostitutes....excuse me, I have to go up my dosage, brb.
