This deal from the Hot deals section : AMD 2400+ MP 35W

Putting it together with a Abit NF7-S board and my OCZ PC 3200 Platinum EL 2-2-3-5 ram. I'm upgrading from my current ASUS A7N8X Deluxe ver 1.04 board and AMD 2800+ Barton.

My current setup ( because of the board ) is only able to hit 185 FSB so this will go to my kids computer. Just wondering what people here think of the newer setup and what you think is possible for me to hit with air cooling.

I'll be using a Thermalright ALX-800 and a Delta 80x35 @5400 rpm fan.

FYI, newegg sells it for $77 atm.

Also, to avoid future confusion, Athlon MPs are the dual cpu capable version of the Athlon, Mobile Athlons are simply called Mobile Athlon XPs.

Edit: Sorry just noticed the wattage difference. Newegg has the mobile 2200+ 35watt coming in for a few days@ $77 also, might be a better buy for the small performance delta between the two.

Thanks for the info. Question though:

Mobile Athlons are simply called Mobile Athlon XPs.

So ( except for the 266FSB ) what's the diffrence between regular Barton XP's and these Mobile XP's ?

Mobile bartons run at lower voltage(and hence less heat). They are also still multiplier unlocked, which allows you to overclock them easier.

lower voltage is less heat. the duron1300 when set to 1.55v from 1.75v, the temperature differences was 15-20c! 40c vs 55-60c(often locked up)

No, crazily enough, the mobile Bartons (not sure about the other mobile XP's) don't have to be modified at all to be SMP-capable. The desktop Bartons and T-bred's have to be modified, though, to be SMP-capable.

depends on what dual amd board your useing

Asus needs 1010 bios and disable MP checking in bios from what i read to be able to use the mobiles unmodified

Gigabyte doesnt require any modification for the mobiles to work on this board

MSI does require a bridge to be disconnected in order for the mobiles to work as MP
