just ordered seagate having doubts

I ordered a seagate and rest of computer and its already been charged than the next day I notice that the hitachi drive I wanted is now in stock why... does it have to do that to me I want the hitachi drive is there anyway i can get it switched? it hasnt shipped yet and probably wont till tues hasnt even been packaged up. should i switch it I really wanted to test out hitachi's sata2 I mean seagate is good but i wanted to try out hitachi or maybe even samsung spinpoint.

i just have some horrible doubts that i should of either got samsung spinpoint for quietness or hitachi for speed.

i dont plan on using that same hd for 5 years man technology is so rapid that even 3 years is crazy.

 
SATAII is pointless (A 300mb pipe while itll only hit ~70mb max), Seagates are also quiet, and i doubt you would see the performance difference between a seagate and hitachi in a real situation, so stop thinking and just leave it be.

Depends on what the drive will be used for and how perceptive you are about the performance of your computer. I bought a 300GB Barracuda 7200.9 recently and when I initially installed it and started transfering data to it, I thought something was wrong because it was taking so long. After further testing, there was nothing wrong with it, it was simply that slow. Since I only planned to use it for storage, speed wasn't an issue, but if I was planning to use it for a boot drive, the poor performance (likely the result of the putrid access time) it has would have persuaded me to return it for something else.

I agree SATA II is not a reason to switch though.

Hitachi and samsung are decent drives... The samsung spinpoints are some of the best on the market for silence.

Compared to what? I can't imagine anything short of a huge SCSI 15k RPM RAID array being that much faster. I can't imagine it was more than 10-20% slower...

The only other current generation ATA drive I have is a WD. Everything else I use is SCSI. I got the WD before the Seagate and it was noticeably slower than the SCSI drives, but it wasn't, "what's wrong with this drive?" slow. When I installed the Seagate I honestly thought there was something wrong with it. It might be tied to the AAM, I don't know, but the near 16ms access time it posts is flat out awful. 10% slower would be noticeable to any power user, 20% slower is a whole LOT slower and would be clearly perceptible to even an average joe if they were paying attention.

Why not just cancel the order and then order what you want? You can't make any changes to your order, but you can still cancel.

how can i do that call credit card company? its already been charged it wont let me cancel from newegg.

 
The current Seagates have decent transfer rates and are available in large capacities, making them ideal for storage drive.

I use a Seagate 7200.8 300GB for storage, but use the WD 74GB Raptor as the boot drive.

How far have HDD's came in the past 5 years?
How many people here are using 5+ year old drives?

Im still using 5+ year old drives for the extra capacity, not necessarily the speed.

If your stuff hasnt shipped, then you can still cancel. Call newegg if you don't see the option online.

 
Seagate and Western Digital are the two best HDD manufacturers in my opinion. I've never had a problem with either.
 
These are the options i can choose from dont do anything seagate comes call newegg tell them i want hitachi or samsung spinpoint both are cheaper than the seagate i got so shouldnt be a problem with switching.
