i can't wait, i can't wait! i got the powercolor radeon 9700 gold retail pack from Newegg. apparently, this card, despite being a non pro 9700, is clocked nearly as high as a pro. i can't wait! w00t.

when are those 3.3 cats coming out? i'm assuming that directx 9 and cat 3.2's are the proper things to load it with also, can someone point out a website that shows the proper way of flashing the video bios? i want to use Warp11's overclocking bios, but i've never flashed a video bios. i'm assuming that it isn't that difficult, and its not like i haven't flashed ten million motherboards. thanks!

Should have gone Sapphire 9700 non pro OEM for $232. Ordered mine Monday and recieved today.

Basically it has Samsung 2.8ns chips on it along with the ati 7 bladed fan. THese cards are the same as the pro and can clock to pro speeds

For more ATI info than you can shake a stick at, go to Rage3d.com and specifically check out the Rage3d Forums. There are tons of people on there that will help you out with most any problem you encounter.

Didn't you have a 9500pro already or something like that?!?!?

Anyways, don't bother waiting for the Cat 3.3's just flash your BIOS (never had to on my BBA retail, but there's plenty of info at Rage3D in the tweaks forum), apply the 9800pro softmod and enjoy increased performance today. :D

Just exactly how would you flash a 9700 np with a 9800 softmod? I couldn't do it maybe because I'm stupid and where is the link to that?

I believe you need to first flash to a BIOS that turns the non-pro into a 9700pro. At that point, you simply download the script file and replace your atimtag.inf file in windows/system32. Update your drivers in device manager and select 9800pro, reboot, and you're good to go. I'll try and dig up the link to the softmod thread, as Rage3D forums don't load well here at work.

That sounds great, all you really need to do is flash with a Pro bios and you're there. The crappy 3.3ns stuff does'nt cut it.

according to the newegg customer reviews, it seem that the current batch at newegg is not the 2.8 ns cards. the powercolor has been shown to overclock well, and i wanted the video cables. i also wanted the card now, and there is no guarantee that i would have gotten the right sapphiretech card. the powercolor will be fast enough for me.

Read through the softmod thread and see if you need to BIOS flash to get it to work.

If you do need to flash,

Try this 9700 non-pro OC'ing BIOS thread.

I haven't read through either (I did the softmod the first night directly from Rage3D's capsule) and I've never had to flash my BIOS. My understanding is though that the OC'ing BIOS basically flashes your BIOS to a 9700pro's (giving OC'ing control and the pro's product ID) at a lower core and memory clock (so you don't fry your card if you have a non-pro that won't do pro speeds).

well, too late now. i'm personally not gonna sweat 20 mHz, as the powercolor card has been overclocking well.
