Just ordered NV Silencer 5 any suggestions?

I just need some basic suggestions I should remember wen installing it.
I remember that I should wear a hair net, working in a clean
enviroment and someplace were you cant get interrupted and so on.
Something important that I just cant remember is that what im I going
to spread the AS5 out with? Once I squeeze some of it, what do I use to
spread it accross the chipset and make it perfectly flat? That I cant
remember.

Oh and Im also getting AS5 from CC tomorrow

A hair net? lol... anyway... clean mating surfaces with isopropyl alcohol and let it dry before applying AS5. Don't touch any electrical contacts. I use a credit card to spread the AS5 onto the GPU core... just make sure you clean the credit card before (and after😉 ).

Don't stress so much on keeping everything germ free. Most people don't recomend putting the AS 5 on the memory but I do and it works fine. Like Jeff said, use alcohol and I found a razor works good for spreading. One thing that's important - Save whatever is currently being used on the card. Whether that's thermal pads on the memory or paste on the core. That way if you need warranty coverage you can return the card to stock condition before sending it in. You of course know that adding the NV 5 voids your warranty. But if you save everything, you can put the card together so that no one will ever know an NV 5 was installed.......

I got the version 1, and the heatsink doesn't make contact with all the ram very well, so you might have to screw it in evenly to maximize contact, also you might have to use some more as5 on the ram to make up for the poor contact.

Sounds like he wants to keep his warranty even after voiding it and is asking how pny could figure out what he did

Not many people left out their with consciences or any guilt.

Most important step:

Enjoy your cool and quiet 6800 afterwards 🙂

Seriously, that's about it. Everyone else has awnsered everything pretty well.

Ive seen people mess up modding their cards and sending it back. Ex, from Adrians Rojak Pot someguys 9800Pro fried with zalman cooler on it. He just mounted back to original HSF and RMAd it

Just another question before it arrives tomorrow. Lets say I install it, but I managed to screw up somehow and the card fries and no longer turns on. I decide to put back the original HSF and RMA PNY saying that I have no idea what happened to it. Would they find out that I was moding it but fried it myself?

Technically, this is RMA fraud...

Ethics aside, yes its possible to do, unless they will inspect the card thoroughly.

Yeah I know its RMA fraud but common, who wouldnt do it for a 400$ peice of hardware? If hope to god this wont happen, I fry the card but there is no physical evidence I can still RMA the card. Worst comes to worst teh card will go on fire.

Seriously, it's not much more difficult than installling a CPU and HSF after installing a motherboard. Do the little thing with the thingies, to pull the HSF off, put some goop on, then put it back together, and that's all there is to it.

If you're not confident in your ability to install a new heatsink and you can't afford to spend $400 to replace it, maybe you shouldn't be fvcking with it?

Jeff is right, but seriously, it is really damn simple to install these coolers. I just did it the other night. I took extra time to examine all the components under the cooler and I did a religious cleaning of the GPU and memory chips and it still only took me 40 minutes to pull it from the comp., remove the cooler, reinstall the cooler, and put the card back in the computer.

It's not rocket science or turbine mechanics.

I'm actually getting an NV Silencer 5 today... well... UPS should deliver it. When they do... I'll see if I can do a step-by-step with pictures for you.

Good luck with that. 😉

They always deliver on time... but always late in the day. So I never get a chance to play until the next day. FedEx deliveres around noon usually... but sometimes to the wrong house. :|

Got the Nv silencer. Ill wait a few weeks until I have enough money to get another card just in case something goes wrong.
