Just ordered an Axim!

I've been waiting for a deal on a Dell Axim for a while, and I found it today. I ordered a brand new (not refurb) Axim 400 MHz for $236 after coupons/discounts from the Dell website. It retails for $325. Now, the infamous wait for Dell to ship begins. w00t!! If you want the deal, check the Chubster Billfold.

My main reason for getting it is wireless internet without a laptop using a CF 802.11b card (once I find a hot deal, of course) - I can't imagine anything cooler than surfing the internet from the lounges at school in between classes (they've got 802.11b) or getting TV listings from my couch using my wireless at home.

It should be here about 1.5 weeks from now - any suggestions on cool stuff to do with it? Is there a Pocket PC program to make it into a universal remote?

How many coupons did you use to get it to that price?
There are 2 15% discounts from Dell automatically (in Small Business). Some people at F@twallet thought it was a mistake, so I'll have to keep checking to see if the order goes through. Fatwalleters are giving away 5% coupon codes, which saves an additional $11, I think.

No kidding - I'm ecstatic right now! Only problem is the horrendously extensive wait that Dell will inevitably make me endure.

Yea, as for remote controls there is one program. Forgot the name, but it exists. It's shareware tho, and you'll have to pay to keep using it, obviously. :)

How do websites look on a PDA like that? Also do they make a card so that you can use it as a PDA phone?

Have you ever surfed on a PDA? It sucks. It's cool for about 5 mins, but it's slow. After that 5 mins it's annoying & useless.

This is what it's all about: pure convenience. No more TV Guide Channel and waiting 5 minutes to see what's on!

Rossman.. You buy one of EVERYTHING. How the hell do you do it? You can't possibly be employed with all the time that you spend on this forum.

I live in Texas so sales tax for me!!! yay!
Everyone gets sales tax applied from Dell Small Biz - it's a fact of life, and a good tradeoff for the sweet deals they offer compared to Home.

That site is freaking cool, as in it should certainly load up speedily even on a 300 or 400 MHz pda. I recommend going to this site: www.aximsite.com, a very informative site for new Axim users. (Thanks RossMAN for suggesting that link in another Axim thread.)

I have had my 300 MHz Axim sans wireless card for about a week now but I haven't had a chance to really check out that aximsite nor download PocketPC apps/games yet. Aside from that, I did try to get my Axim to ActiveSync and it keeps getting stuck at the syncing with AvantGo part. I'd try to troubleshoot it but just haven't had enough desire or time to figure it out. Oh well, I'm such a n00b.:p

Not everyone. :)

Oregon has no state sales tax, so it's tax free for us.

You know.. I've always wondered what people like you (Rossman) and people like TheDiggler and Mysticman do for a living. You guys seem to spend an awful lot of time on this forum and it seems like TheDiggler and Mysticman are always posting very detailed deals on the hot deals forums. How do you guys do it?

Sal

RossMAN works at a bank. I'm a student, but I don't spend THAT much time here. Oh, and as for aximsite.com, I've already registered and bragged about my hot deal to the members. ;)

I work at a bank, have tons of credit cards, live in Oregon where it rains 9 months out of the year, we have 0% sales tax and I was bitten by the "bargain bug" 5 years ago.

I don't think there is one, but check out http://www.aximsite.com to make sure.

The difference between the Axim and the Tungsten boils down to your preference of OS. Personally, I like Pocket PC much better than what I've seen of the Palm OS, but this decision basically boiled down to value - you're getting more with the Axim than the Tungsten, I feel.
