what do ya think

Did you price out all those parts yourself or is this a package from a VAR? I'd never buy from someone who charges extra for cables in a pre-built. 🙂 And I certainly wouldn't pay 7 to 8 dollars each.

What about software? No OS?

The CPU could be had cheaper, in a retail package rather than being charged for a heatsink and OEM processor. The 2500+ is also a better deal than the 2800+, given the price jump between them. The blue PSU is a waste of money, both because it's highly overkill on the power and LEDs are stupid. Extra fans (with or without LEDs) aren't really needed if the system is set up right. An Antec case with a True430 would be a better deal, though you'd not get the side window or color and crap.

I don't think you need anybody to say it's a good system.

I basically was going to say what Lord Evermore already said.

That and I think the monitor could be better. You can get decent 19" flat CRT monitors for that price range, especially if you include a coupon or rebate. Check the hot deals forum.

And whats up with that RAM??? Oh wait nevermind it's for 2 chips for $150 total. I don't know what brand you got but you can get Hyper X DDR 2700 CL2 for the same price. I'd want to go with 400mhz RAM but I don't know where you can get quality 400mhz 512mb chips for $75.

and what's with all the LED stuff? Are you making a little mini raver computer? 😛 😉

btw is this from a shop or online?
Cables are usually included with motherboards. However, nick ordered what appear to be blue rounded cables. The format used to list the items also leads me to believe the purchases may have been made from NewEgg.

yes this is from newegg. this was on a 1400 budget. the cables are rounded cables and he wanted some LED lights. newegg was out of OEM 2800's so i was forced to get a retail for a few dollars more, no big deal. oh, the ram is corsair

dakels: Assuming there are no plans to overclock, getting the PC2700 CL2 modules was the better choice than trying to find PC3200, since at that price they'd have been CL2.5 modules. Between Corsair and Kingston there's not really any reason to go one way or the other.

I'd have waited a little while to order if it meant being able to save 90 bucks on the CPU. 🙂 But then, the retail CPU is only a few bucks more than OEM, so I can't really see a reason for paying 20 bucks for a heatsink if it might not be needed. (I haven't seen the one used for Bartons, I know the one for Palomino at higher speeds sucks.)

Some motherboards are now coming with rounded cables. 🙂 Not that one, but others. It sounds like your friend is a wannabe. I don't think you get bragging rights if your kickass gaming rig with windows and LEDs and lots of fans was built by someone else, and you didn't even pick the parts.

If he wants to watch DVDs on his computer...then yeah he needs that. And if he wants to burn CDs...then he needs that. 🙂

Dell gives you the CDRW as a free upgrade along with a DVD drive.

I thought there were already DVD burners out...I think? 😛
I'ma go and have a surfy in web to feind info.

EDIT: well Here is an example. it seems they still cost a crapload 🙁

There are. But not everybody's interested in them. Three different formats. No need to store gigs and gigs of data to optical disk. Expensive. Can't share discs with most people. Et cetera.

I think we could use telepathy for transferring data. no hardware conflicts, unless you communicate with a really stupid person.

Agreed about the 2700 RAM. Kingston's latency is a little better though. Stil not a big deal though 🙂

I'd also get a 2500 Barton. Such a small mhz difference for half the price. As for your mentioning of dell... theres a new deal where you can get a 800fsb 2.8ghz w/HT, 400mhz Dual Channel DDR, Radeon 9800 (128mb) for $720ish...

yeah the problem with the dvd/rw is the "crapload" factor 😉

i got the vantec heatsink because it is a really nice cooler and i want to be sure there are no heat-related instabilities in the system. the retail athlon heatsinks are kinda iffy if you ask me. plus the retail isnt completely bad, it does come with a 3 year warranty and only cost a few bucks more. so thats not a big loss

concerning the kingston RAM--

i originally was going to get the hyperX 2700, but after reading through the reviews a lot of people with the nfroce2 mobo were having problems with that RAM. kingston officially said that it isnt supported for nforce2. granted, there are many people who say that the ram works fine with the nforce2, but since this isnt my computer, i wanted to be sure so i got the corsair

Dell's going to become the AOL of the hardware world. But instead of CD's, we'll all be foundering in cheap PCs that they just mail out and we end up using them for coffee tables. 🙂

The problem with telepathy would be language. Do our brains all work exactly the same? Or do we each interpret the world slightly differently, but have evolved to be able to bring the same understanding together? I'm colorblind, would you be able to figure out what I was seeing since the colors would look different? Does everyone in fact see color exactly the same once it gets past the eyes? Do the eyes send the same signal to the brain? Or do we all have our own internal language that we "convert" to concepts that can be shared through writing and speaking and body language? Would we have to learn to format our thoughts into a common telepathic language?

🙂

And given the number of stupid people, there'd be plenty of conflicts.

By using another heatsink on it, you probably void the warranty from AMD. 🙂 Using Arctic Silver does that, I imagine they'd complain about you using a "non-approved" heatsink, i.e., anything but stock.

I'm using HyperX 2700 2-2-2-5 right now in my A7N8X V1.0. Works fine. Though I can't get Prime95 to run at anything but stock speeds, despite everything else being perfectly stable. I imagine the only reason it's not "validated" by Kingston on the nforce2 is they don't feel like testing every single module in dual-channel mode to qualify it, and they avoid people being able to say it didn't work and get a refund.

Thats what Windows TeleXP is for!

I knew this yet totally overlooked it. You are right on. No need to chance it. Good choice!

and Lord Evermore:
If you speak with a lisp, then does your telepathic voice also have a lisp?

IMO, the PSU is overkill and i would have gotten pc3200

high quality 3200 was just too expensive, plus the 2700 matches his FSB and he wont overclock, so that works out better.

and i dont think the psu is overkill. having a top notch psu will save you in the long haul

It is overkill. The system you listed would do fine on a quality Antec 350 PSU (probably even 300W). My dual XP systems both only have 400W Antec PSUs and they have no stability problems.
