Buy books and read on it. :D Not much to it. A free book every Friday (some good, some garbage).

what is this i hear about free classic books? what is epub?

Things you should have researched before buying the nook. :p

B&N gives away classic books a lot, usually stuff in the public domain. You can also pick these up from Project Gutenberg though the editing may be a little off.

epub is a file format, very standard among most e-readers. Not supported by Kindles though, I think.

I think you should have waited until black friday and got it for $99 at BB. I am on the fence about one. Most of my reading is done a night at work in my car. With an ereader I will need an auxiliary light. My EVO has been doing a pretty good job but the constant page turns does get annoying.

I agree. The $99 deal at BB sounds good. What deal did you get OP?

Yeah, pretty odd to ask these Qs after your purchase... but I'll be nice and answer since I did the same thing when I first bought it.

Free books:
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/Free-eBooks/379001668/

You make an account on the B&N site, and then when you get your Nook you put your account info in the Nook to link them up. Then as you buy books either via your PC or Nook they will download to the Nook wirelessly via wifi or 3G (if you have it).

Once you buy an ebook it stays on your account for free download forever, and B&N changes their free ebooks often. So you can add every free ebook they offer to your account and just read what you want when you want. There's never a reason to pass up a free ebook even if you're not entirely sure you'll use it. You might end up finding you DO want to read it and it's no longer free.

Epub is a format of ebook that pretty common throughout the ebook world except the Kindle. Most ebooks you can find online or from libraries and such are in epub format so you won't have to convert it to use it. If you only get your ebooks from the B&N site this will never be a big deal to you.

it's still going as of last night for both sites i just mentioned...the better deal that is dead is the $99 ebay deal that was for wifi + 3g

Thanks for the reply. Bummer that I missed the $99 3G, but I went ahead and ordered one from buy.com for $119. I don't mind it being refurbished, and for the the $20 extra for 3G is worth it over the wifi. Now maybe the wife will stop bothering me about an ereader.

Also, those of you who are getting a Nook soon... keep your eyes out for the 1.5 update due this month. Nook updates have always added pretty solid performance increases as well as good features.
