Just ordered a 7900 GT!

Well, I decided to finally order some new stuff. Got an A64 3500 (939), MSI Neo4-F (it was the right price!), 2 gigs of Patriot CAS2 RAM, and an eVGA GF 7900 GT KO. I was on the fence for about 2 weeks of 7900 GT vs. X1800 XT 256, and eventually just decided to get a 7900. Hopefully I made an okay decision, the card was $280 at ZZF with a $30 rebate, making it $250 at the end. Enough of the games I play benefit from the 7900 chipset over X1800. So, what do you guys think? Did I choose well?

Have fun RMAing it a few times if you're unlucky. I'm on #4, but it seems to be holding out!

Edit: Don't want to make you sad. My 7900 is $*(# fast and nice!

Don't worry, I'm already having buyer's remorse. I know it's not a wise buy/decision, but the X1900 AIW is dead sexy. It's a freaking purple card... how hardcore is that? I'll just see how the 7900 turns out. Is it really true that if you RMA the same card 3 times they give you the best card? I think my friend was just full of crap... but who knows. eVGA card, btw.

I just got my 7600GT KO and it showed some signs of trouble.funny though, an update of the driver helped reduced 20 C in idle temps 😕

it played in most games that I throw at it in 1600x1200 😀

akshayt i would say you go to another forum and explain your problems to them =]
on a brighter note i would've gotten the x1800xt instead

He already bought the card. Who cares what you would have done... 😉

Vmod it and it'll be FASTER than a X1800XT.

<- Happy EVGA 7900GT KO owner

I'm buying Oblivion next week, soooo, maybe not so happy once I start playing that, so hopefully no thread update griping about my card.

Man, I got Oblivion in the mail today, and it's just torture. Oh well, I'm gonna test out my 7900 first and make sure it's okay (if it is), and then I'll get a new heatsink/fan down the line. After that, I'll consider volt modding it (any good tutorials on that?).

Yes, a 7900GT if volt modded i think and highly overclocked can comapre with a 7900GTX

That's your problem right there, you think... Stop doing that and stop posting and everything will be fine.

Back to the thread... how hard is the voltmod?

🙂 .. hrm, volt modding a ATI X1800XT, will get it pretty fast. and replacing with water cooling, unleash the stock X1800XT. heheh, my sig.

Oblivion is meant only for Radeon 1900 series, just check xbitlabs or the benchmarks, and you will see that the min fps of a 1900xtx is a competitor to 7900GTX SLi

I thought it was crap?

Really akshayt, you shouldn't post here anymore. You've showed everyone that you want others to fix your problems and think they're stupid when they don't. Why give advice if you can't even install a card right yourself?

OP, hope you like your purchase. I'd voltmod it to get more juice.
