Just OCed my Voodoo. not a big difference?

I put on a new fan and heatsinks on my V3 3000 today and could only get the core/memory up to 196 without artifacts showing up. That's based on the 166 core/memory the manufacturer gives. Is this not good or normal? Also i used the Arctic Silver Thermal adhesive and my friend said to put on a paper thin layer or the AS doesn't work right. Is this true? I hope so. Anyone?

Thats pretty good. It's above average, most of them got around 190 or above(I know this I used to hang around in the 3dfxgamers forums a long time ago)

no speed increase? cpu limited maybe, what games are benching and at what settings? 196 is a good overclock, drop it down a little maybe to see if performs better and save the card in the long run.

I'm running my V3 3000 @ 183, don't wanna push it. 196 is an excellent o/c, try backing it down and see what happens.

That's a big overclock and with your CPU you should notice a performance increase in any situation, even at 640 x 480 x 16.

How come your sig says you've got a Radeon?

>>>>"but is that the right amount of Arctic Silver to use? A really thin layer?"<<<< Yes.

If you overclock your videocard and see no framerate increase it's because the CPU is the limiting factor. This is the case with my Voodoo5-5500 AGP hooked up with my 883MHz Celeron2. When I had my Voodoo3-3000 AGP and overclocked it I noticed a 10% increase in fps because, at that time, I was videocard-limited but since the Voodoo5 scales to more powerful processors my 883Mhz Celeron2 is too slow for it so overclocking the card does nothing.
