I finally get the green light from the wife to build a new system, I order all the components. They all arrive. I take two days off from work to build/config/futz with..... Then Murphy showed up. 🙁 Turns out the motherboard was DOA, Called ASUS they walked me thru troubleshooting, conclusion? Dead board. So here I sit, hitting refresh on the FedEx tracking site watching the progress of my RMA.
