Just me or has the X-Files gone rapidly downhill?

Rehashed plots, bad dialogue, unbelievable characters. Did Duchovny take all the writers with him when he left or did he play that much of a role in the writing?

It's obviously not as good as it used to be but it's not that bad. My main problem with X-files has been their inability to deliver. It's like a soap opera,, you can miss a whole season ( I missed most of last season ) and just jump right back in because they audience hasn't learned enough to change things. It's still the best sci fi show on TV.

That doesn't say anything for television.

The Ex-files last episode really sucked (with the 'batman'). Dogget is no replacement for Mulder. As an actor he isn't bad, but the writers seem like they can't make up their minds as to any direction.

Thats true but TV is all we have to live with unless you want to go see every crappy scifi movie that comes out. I have tried this and would not reccomend it, though Pitch Black was a pleasant Surprise it doesn't make up for Supernova...:|

Yeah I think Agent Dogget is a pretty flat character right now but I think they will find his nich soon enough.

I agree, I just can't buy that this guy is so naive at this point in his career. I also don't like how the writers are pushing Scully into the role of Mulder so quickly. She is now the open minded one with Dogget as the skeptic. Unless there were some very unexpected staff changes I don't see how the producers of this show could have gotten caught with their pants down. They knew Duchovny was leaving and yet didn't seem to have considered what direction the show was going to take.

What I really liked about Xfiles was that no matter how complicated the plot became, the writers didn't spoon feed you information. They left it up to you to keep up. Now the dialogue is full of plot 'way pointers'.

I think the approach to the 'no Duchovny' transition has been far too heavy handed.

I can't believe I'm expending this much thought for a TV program :)

Before you jump on the last couple of episodes, go and re-watch the first couple. I remembered the pilot being much better than it was when I watched it again after a couple of years. X-files didnt get really good until after the first year.

IMHO, they are similar in that we seeing the writers really trying to figure some way to put the chemistry in place. I expect they'll figure it out soon.

As for rehashes, when I saw the "bat man" commercial, I thought of the "turd man" episode. This week's was suck as far explainability goes. Especially since he was flying without flapping his wings...

I thought the season's first two episodes were pretty good, but
the batboy one really sucked. I don't mind Doggett, but for some
reason the writer's dropped his IQ by 50% for the batboy episode
and I found that annoying.

I thing that I am really liking about this season is that Scully
seems to be working her rack far more than the seasons before.
That coat is never closed anymore ;)

No, its not just you but for some reason I never really got into the x-files anyways so it doesn't really bother me that much.

First 2 seasons were the best, the 3rd was pretty good. Everything from 4 and on has been total crap.
Haven't seen an episode in over a year, before that I always wondered when the x-files turned into a comedy? With Mulder always cracking jokes all the time, it's supposed to be a serious show. Ah, well whatever. After the x-files moved from their friday night time slot (after sliders, which was awesome) to sunday, that's probably when it started to go downhill for me.
