Used D300, 3 year Mack Warranty, 32GB CF Card (had to buy as a set) - $1400 shipped.

Gawd, I seriously wanted to chuck my Tamron 17-50mm off a cliff yesterday because I missed a great shot due to it not focus locking. Just this morning I was taking pictures of Sequoias with the 50mm and 40D and it was doing some of the most retarded focusing ever. EVERYTHING was out of focus and it said it had a focus lock. Yay!

Can't wait. Need to get the grip, some batteries, and a lens.

After using a D200 last weekend, I keep wishing Canon ergonomics were as nice as Nikon's. :(

I've been looking at pics I took while on business in Germany, and way too many are OOF.

I am ready to chuck my 20D too...but I want to see what replaces the 5D first.

As superior as Nikon bodies (and flashes) are, they still lag behind in terms of the Canon glass I want and need.

Seriously...
You guys are kidding, right?

Serious photographers are progressing to bigger sensors, not smaller ones.

Leave 4/3rds to the micro SLR market.

no, not at all. the IQ is there on the E-3, and the sealing is second to none. not to mention that olympus puts good seals in both it's midrange and top end glass, something canikon doesn't do.

Well if you bang around that D300 as much as you did with the Canon - it will break too.

Welcome to the Nikon world. Here's to hoping that Nikon keeps producing great products to attract more like you.

Well, Nikon and Canon both make very durable bodies and lenses, but it seems that Nikon has the cheapest price of entry to that level with the D300. If it's anything like a D2H, you'll be fine. The college newspaper that I take shots for on occasion has a pair of original D2H bodies, and they beat the shit out of them. Same thing goes for their lenses, such as an AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8 VR. One of the 70-200VR lenses has a chunk gouged out of the metal focusing ring, but the manual focus still feels smooth. It's amazing; it's like the pro-level bodies and internal-zooming pro lenses are hewn from solid blocks of metal.

With that D300, I want to see FBB take some sports and wildlife shots, especially with an MB-D10! The OEM EN-EL3e batteries are only $40 each, so go ahead and get a spare or two, but the rest of your power can come from Eneloops in the MB-D10.

Common complaint is: No really fast primes.

Nikon doesn't sell a lens faster than f1.4, Canon has two of them.

And I wouldn't use either one at f/1.2. ;)
I would wholeheartedly agree that Nikon's primes need to be updated to AF-S, however. It looks like they might just be doing a little bit of that at Photokina: an AF-S 50mm f/1.4G. Hopefully an AF-S 85mm f/1.8G and AF-S 28mm f/1.4G would follow next year.

Hopefully they can match the $80 price point of Canon's EF 50mm f/1.8 with their AF-S model. If not, people will still have to buy bodies with a built in drive motor in order to use the cheaper AF f/1.8.

No, what they really need is a 30mm f/1.8G DX with the kit AF-S motor.
