Two weeks ago my rig got about 2600 in 3DMark 2001, now it has dropped to about 1700. This is a celeron 850, Radeon 32mb DDR, 320mb ram, Win XP Pro. Since then all I've done is swap out my old NIC with a wireless NIC. Assuming this to be the problem, I've rerun the benchmarks with it both disabled and physically removed from the system, and my scores don't improve. Has anyone had this experience, or know of any test I could do to isolate what is slowing my system?
Also, on a related note, I'm wondering just how many processes win xp needs to be running in the task manager. Mine is sitting at 21 after boot up, and it seems like there must be some junk in there, anyone know of a good guide for finding out exactly what they all do (like I've got about 5 svchost.exe things running)?
