Its dark blue, seems in pretty good condition... There's a very small rust spot on the front end of the hood, smaller than my pinky nail... There's very little damage, a few small dings and some scratches on the car and the rear hubcaps are peeling (mom had the same problem with her V6 XLE, got it fixed cheap).

Used car dealer wants $4,995 (2.2 4 cyl, 115,xxx miles) and its in very good condition minus the body work.

How much do you think I can barter this guy down, and what are my points of argument?

Offer $4200....then counter for $4300. Trust me....these dealerships aren't moving many used cars these days. There are too many incentives for new cars right now.

I'd do it, I'm looking for a '95-96 Camry myself. Ask him to see the invoice (what he paid for the car) and offer 2% higher than that. Pay up to 4-5% higher than invoice, no more.

Agreed, but if you start at $4200, it's not a rounded number. That will the sales rep's guard down and make the chances of them dropping the price go up rather than trying to make more on the next customer.

Check kbb.com for the trade-in value on the car and subtract a little for the dings. That's how you can tell what they appraised the vehicle for and get an idea of the dealer profit. ;)

Good luck. Maybe $500. But not much more. People kick, claw and bite to get their hands on used camry's from the mid 90's.

Yes and no. Dealers don't move as many 00-02 used cars because of incentives and what not, but the $4000-$8000 4 door sedan is the hottest moving car in the used car market. Take a look in autotrader also - you can't hardly find a used camry of that vintage. Nobody wants to give them up, and as soon as they are for sale, they are bought immediately.

I've got a '94 camry w/ just shy of 130k miles on the clock and I've *considered* selling it. Just on some of the mumblings in my office, I've got two or three people that are already interested in it.

Why is that? I also have a '94 Camry with 140K miles. Great condition!

I agree, unless it's in mint condition I think $4,995 is a little spendy even for this legendary reliable car.

I checked the NADA Retail and the KBB Retail and both are kind of high, but this car doesn't come with any kind of warranty...

EDIT: NADA turns up an average retail of $5,375 with a low of $4,125 and a high of $6,225...

I need some arguing points here, I want this car pretty bad but I'm not the best at getting car dealers down... Any advice is appreciated...

If a camry in good shape, it should last for long time, my 88 has about 230000mi and still drive 70+ mi per day to and from work,
