Crap! :(

I have my digital camera plugged into my front USB port on my tower, and somehow it hit the eject button on my Kenwood TrueX CD ROM drive as I was standing up. In my infinite clumsiness, my leg simultaneously hit the extending tray and yanked it out. :(

If this ever happens to you I also know what not to do after this happens.... Do not try to jam the tray back in!!! I tried to and after growling at me and moving the tray back and forth a thousand times it locked up the PC.

I had to remove the drive ( and adjust the master/slave connections) just to get it to boot properly.

Anyone have any ideas for what to do with a dead CD ROM????

I think my old PC's secondary IDE controller went out, and took a CD-ROM and CD-RW burner out with it. I've been too lazy to test the drives in a different PC though. Wanted to pick up one of the Presario 6000Z deals at Staples, but was not willing to pay $75 for shipping.

Not a bad idea, but that would be slower than my CDR that I have on my secondary IDE.
