Just jumped on the DSL bandwagon

Pretty nice. Main reason why I got DSL was steady pings, and it's the only broadband available in my area other than wireless. The wireless provider is horrible and has a huge startup fee, so here I am on DSL. I'm not here to brag (notice I'm not posting my speeds). But let's just say I'm happy :) Once cable becomes available I'll probably be looking into that as well as see what kind of downloads are offered.

Advice if DSL is available in your area: Check out DSLReports to see if your provider is one of the 'better few'. You can also determine your line distance, if your ISP is unable to for you.

I checked once, just for sh!ts & giggles. I'm at 54,000 feet.

Do you think I can get DSL?

Viper,

Your sarcasm is noted :p

DSL is so new in my area (rural Northern Illinois) that it isn't even on their page. The download tester sure is nice, however I still prefer a download from Netscape, Macromedia, Adobe, or Microsoft to judge bandwidth :) By the way, my ISP uses PPPoE - do you recommend RASPPPoE? Since my computer is the only using the line, a router would probably be a little extreme. :)

I don't know much about PPPoE, & I know nothing about RASPPPoE. Qwest is straight PPP, which would probably be my first choice. Except maybe bridging mode, which is rarely used anymore, & has some serious disadvantages.

Qwest would certainly be nice. Other than having to use DHCP for this 'Enternet 300' PPPoE software it's been rather nice. The only DSLAM at the CO is my provider so there really isn't much of a choice :(

Here's the specs on the DSLAM: MRRSILMS

I've heard lots of good things about Speakeasy. They're just north of here, I wish they'd move a little south :)

Are you uncapped? You must know somebody who works for the Telco.. or you're paying a lot of $$$ :)
