I had a few extra bucks burning a hole in my wallet so i decided to move over to a ssd for my OS drive. was previously using a WD Black 1TB 64mb cache drive which is no slouch. ran to microcenter and picked up a crucial m4 128gb on sale (less than newegg and amazon). its so small and lightweight! i thought the box was empty when i picked it up. the WD weighs a ton compared to it. also grabbed a second WD Black there too for some raid0 goodness on my storage/games drive. WHS takes care of my data backup so no worries there.

the ssd is stupid fast. windows loads way faster, multitasking is much quicker. its like a new computer. my steam backup didnt want to restore so im still downloading gigs upon gigs of data and cant say if the raid0 did much to game load times. anyways, im still on an "old" x58 board so only sata2 for now, but all 3 drives are sata3 for that inevitable update to x58's replacement. now, my 1.5year old win7 install may have been slowing things down a tad too but still, i dont recall windows ever being this responsive. almost everything is instant. its great. SSD FTW!

congrats and I hope everything goes smoothly for you! Once you go SSD, you can never go back. 😀

I've been contemplating about picking myself up an m4, and I guess this made up my mind! Just one thing, should I install my most played games onto the SSD to increase load times or just throw them all onto my soaker HDD?

If you didn't already, update the firmware. Their most recent one 0009 bumps performance even more and most importantly improves garbage collection.

The disk subsystem has been the slowest part of the PC for a while now, and I'm surprised it took this long for SSDs to carve out their share of the market, but rest assured many of us have seen the future, and it is fast !

Is this still the best bet for moving games around? I don't really know much about junction points, but this program keeps popping up. It's just not updated in a long time (I guess if it works, it works)

I read this will work for non-steam games as well, can anyone confirm?

yes, and you can also use it to move other software around.

Yeah, I'm using it to move my Impulse games off my SSD since I really don't play them all that much and they eat up too much space. Damn default C: directory I forgot to change.

Just reinstall steam on another drive and copy the files from the old directory to the new.
